What the $&*# Is this in my tranny pan??

2005 2.3 2wd. Dropped the tranny pan to put a new filter and 4wd pan on (for the drain plug), done trans pan drops a million times. Took the truck back to my parents as ots a shared work truck, and noticed the old pans had these in here? Looks like pieces of some type of copper ring, and 3 small looks to be steel discs? Any idea?

That's a new one! Was the trans working fine before you dropped the pan?

Working fine but just read the discs are spacers from the old gasket.. my new gasket didn't have them or holes for them. As for the copper i have no idea. Trans ran fine.

on another note.. Going to put a magnet on the outside of the pan since the new pan didn't have one. Where on the outside should I put it? Just the lowest spot or off to the side?

The magnets are usually in one of the coners so the "sludge" doesn't accumulate near the filters intake.
