T5 swap in a 03 level II

My manual transmission is going out on my 03 level II and i was planning on swapping a T5 at the place of the mitsubishi (im really not a fan of that compagnie). I know the 06 4l mustang has it so the bellhousing exist for it but ive never measured the lenght of a 4wd t5 with bellhousing compare to the oem trans also if i remember correctly the bolt pattern and output shaft spline are different. Anybody ever tried it?

From what's been talked about on here before, the trans wont mate up with your transfer case. Also, your trans you have now is mazda, not mitsubishi.

How do you know the one you have is going?

from light research i have done on 4wd swaps, you are in for quite a bit of book work and research to make sure you get all the right parts the first time.
there is an advance adapters plate to use standard 5.0 bellhousings behind the 2.9/4.0
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...y/T5for29.html
if the 05+ v6 stang still uses a T5, that may indeed be an option also.
you will also be lookin for a method to attach your t-case. obviously the mustang variety of T5 is meant for a 2wd application, so that tail shaft wont work.
shifter location is pushed back in relation to the M5 tranny you currently have also. there has been a few(that i know of) completed tailshaft and housing swaps done on a ford T5 to use the S10 midshift location.

if the t-case pattern and output splines are the same for an S10 and ranger, using a 4wd S10 tailshaft and associated parts would effectively kill two birds w/one stone.
i know the output of the 2wd T5 and 2wd M5 are the same, not sure on 4wd applications.

good luck, and HTH.

I tought at first it was my front diff that was making noise but after checking on a lift at work and draining the tranny oil which was full but metalic grey it was clear that theres a output shaft bearing thats going out. The bell housing does exist for the newer 4l, my brother has a 06 4l mustang and has a t5 in it, i also have an s10 t5 and transfert case from my previous truck. Ill look in to it more before taking my decision cause its my dd and i need it to go to work.
