yoke coming out of transmission?
yoke coming out of transmission?
what causes the yoke to come out of the back of the transmission? I only notice the yoke slowing comming out of the back of the transmission because there is some shiny (clean) ring at the tip of the yoke, right before it enters the transmission seal.
do i need to tighten it? if so how do i do that? Also it may be flexing more then usaul, because the crome ring around it is new. could that be caused by u joints getting a little loose?
Most likely not. Really I wouldn't worry about it too much.
But, checking your suspension out for something that has shifted or broken won't hurt. Motor and transmission mounts.
Are you sure you didn't just do some more extreme maneuvering lately? Carried a heavier load than normal, put on a bed cap or something? Anything which changed the deflection range could do that.
Bigger tires can do that for instance as you get more spring wrap. That decidedly pulls and pushes on the driveshaft.
I have a soft spot for 2WD, Cole. My truck started as a 2WD Edge but I SAS'd it and converted it over to 4WD. Just did that this past year and wheeled it for 5 years as a 2WD with a lift and a rear locker.
And I had a good sized "chrome ring" on mine, lol. Flexed the living crap out of my setup when it was 2WD.

yea im trying to figure out with i have a clanking/popping/metal schrpenal noise coming from under the cab, just checking everything out, i think it may be my u joints, but not sure. the front u joint has a little play in it, but the rear u joints dont have any play in them at all. i dont know if any play is normal, is it?
Ah, if your u-joints are binding that could do it. The u-joints themselves should have zero play. Replace both of them very soon.
Also, you might consider doing something: post ALL your symptoms in your first post. It's impossible to come even close to giving you an answer without all the information. You didn't mention the noises or looseness or anything.
Many other than you could learn from this also. We waste an awful lot of time around here teasing details out of folks. I have very little time for this board anymore and frankly if a topic doesn't get moving factually, I probably won't be taking the time to ineteract on it and it seems MOST of our truly technical users are in the same position.

I'm a 2wd man myself. If you know what you're doing 4wd doesnt help much because you get too stuck for it to matter any more. 4wd is nice for going over things like fallen trees and stumps and whatnot. Nothing beats parking ON the wheel stops in parking lots either. Still, 2wd is where it's at.
I had an awful lot o fun wheeling 2WD for sure. In fact, there were a few things that were almost disappointingly easy with the solid axle 4WD. Now I have to look for harder things -- don't know if that's a good thing or not, lol.
I know, I'm just messin, I leave mine in 2wd unless I've got a tire off the ground, am in something slippery, or wanna be a fast moving slider in the snow.
