01-03 bumper on 2000

Does any one know if a 2001-2003 XLT 4X4 bumper(same as an Edge one only chrome)will bolt right up to my 2000 XLT?I am going to take Wowak's damaged front valance and get it fixed and painted to match my truck and put it on with the chrome bumper.I think it would look good and different. All I would need is a set of foglights and the chrome bumper I hope.I colormatched my lower valance a few years back and it looks good but doesn't really match because it has a textured finish making it look dull and darker than the rest of the truck.Plus the clear foglights would match my crystal headlights and marker lights.

If someone wanted to attempt to photoshop it that would be great.

im pretty sure it will be a direct swap, but FYI for anyone else, you must use an edge bumper with an edge valance as far as i know, so for you MRC it would work if you use both the upper bumper and lower valance. the foglight harnesses should be the same as well

The 2001-2003 XLT 4X4 bumper is the exact same as an Edge one only it is chrome. The XLT 2wd will not work.

i knew there would be clarifying issues with what i said, i was generalizing, it didnt want to get into the well repeated specifics of the ranger bumpers, but i can if someone wants

Wowak and I had our trucks side by side and obviously the front of the frame is the same but it looked like the mounts were different. If I get a new bumper from the dealer it most likely won't come with the mounts.I think maybe we could pull both of them off and put his on mine and see how it will bolt up and if there would be any other parts needed.Brian's needs a bit of adjusting after his accident so maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea.

Yeah, for clarification, MRC isn't so dumb that he thinks he could put an EDGE valance on his 2000 bumper.. he plans to buy a chrome 01+ 4x4 bumper. The question is if they mount any differently, but I guess we're just going to test-fit my bumper on his truck tonight to see.

Heres your truck with an edge valance in Bright Atlantic Blue, and a chrome 4x4 bumper (its a rough photoshop.)

And for good measure, I did a horrible fast chop of an Edge hood.

Yes, but do you know if he needed to change the bumper mounts at all, Zach, or did it bolt right up? It would save us a bit of gruntwork if someone knew for sure.

Well that was a successful test-run:

My truck again bumperless:

MRC's truck bumperless:

It appears the only real change is the crossmember they added to support the 01+ tow hooks.

The only real question is if a new bumper from Ford will come with all the mounting bracketry, or if it will have to be purchased seperately.

Marc on his way to McDonalds to get sponsored as the Ronald McDonald truck.

That does look kind of hideous with a red front bumper and valance. At least we were able to verify that it is a bolt on deal.I will order a new bumper and hopefully it will come with the monting brackets and reinforcement brackets. If not I will have to order them also.My plan is to do an Edge hood, the XLT 4X4 chrome bumper,Edge valance painted to match and Speed Grill inserts for the grill and lower valence in chrome. That should look real good and be unique.

Actually thats as far up as it will go, and the reason for that is that the headlight screws would be blocked by the bumper. (The 2000 headlights are screwed in instead of clips like the 01+.) I suppose it would be possible to grind out the slots a little to get it higher, but then you'd have to loosen and drop the bumper to change a headlight bulb.

What I really need are giant spikes with explosive charges that will shoot out the front of the car in a front impact.

ok, Wowak and Marc,

if you are ordering a Bumper from Ford, IT DOES NOT come with the mounting hardware, its just the bumper bar.... Been there, done that

However, looking at your pics of the rear of both bumpers, you might be able to strip the mounting hardware off the 00 bumper, and attach it to the 03, since i assume Wowak will keep his hardware

Thanks for the info on that.Just for the record,Wowak and I are not swapping front bumpers,we only did that to verify it would work on my truck.I am just using his old lower valance that is slightly damaged.I am getting it repaired and painted.I only need to order the bumper and now I guess the brackets because they are different from the 2000 to 2003 bumper.

Well, that may be your opinion but if I were to get the Edge one and had it painted I would also need to replace and paint the rear bumper also.It would look kind of dumb with the rear bumper being the only thing chrome on the truck.I am now reconsidering doing it at all after getting all of the prices.Fixing and painting the valance is $100.The chrome bumper is about $250,all of the brackets come to about $100 and all of the bolt and hardware is about another $40.Also new foglights are $57 each bringing the total to around $600.I know that I could scrounge around some junkyards and possibly save a few bucks but that is still just too much.

ACTUALLY, neither is an Edge front clip! If you look, you'll see the gap in the center is much wider on a "real" Edge with the full factory treatment.
