1998 XLT - rear door cable replacement?

I've gotten new door handles, the metal sleeve parts that fit into the handles*, and bottom latch assemblies themselves and replaced them. I'm still not getting consistent open/close behavior out of the rear doors on my son's truck. It almost seems like the cables themselves might be messed up. There's a plastic sleeve insert piece that the cable kind of rides in that is degraded/missing, so when we put everything back together the door latch won't open completely. Anyone know the part number for the upper and lower cables? At this point I'm ready to bite the bullet and replace everything in there.

I looked high and low, no one seems to make new cables. Mine work much better when I replaced the cable ends on the lower latch.
