iv been lookin into getting a toolbox for my truck. i like the low pro but im leaning more towards the flush one thats inside the bed, black of course. i think the low pro will throw away the look that im going for with the truck.

i want to see some pics of them and get some feed back. iv done a search and cant quite find what im looking for.

and also where did you get them? i found one i like at home depot for like $350, i thought that was alot

Personally I like UWS brand boxes over the rest, plus they make like a billion different styles and sizes of boxes. The only drawback to having one of the box style ones that sides flush or under the bed sides height is that you will probably have to drill holes in it and the bed and bolt it down, and that you loose a little more bed space since you can't fit anything under it.

Just go to local truck shops and look at what they have, since your pretty much in the redneck area of Florida theres got to be atleast a few decent truck places. Theres TONS of cheap boxes on Craigslist too.

 

I have the Kobalt Low-pro from Lowe's, I've been thinking about painting it black soon. I love it though, got it for like 200.

I painted my lowes kobalt box black, but have yet to put it in the truck :-( I would deffinatly pick up a low pro one if you could..

I dunno what you do with your truck, but you do get what you pay for, in the long run. Personally I loved the look of a low profile box, however I hated what it held. Seemd to me that it always needed to be about 1" deeper. I ended up going to a box that stuck up higher off the bedrails. I'm lots happier with it. Granted though, I get into that box all day, every day.

One more thing to think about, that I never did think of when I bought the first one, was where the latches were located. The ones on the front of the box are OK until you load up the bed of the truck with stuff and then remember that your straps are still in the box. This WeatherGuard box I have now, has them on the sides. Sooooooo much handier.

Nice thing about the latches on the weatherguard is that when they are unlocked, the button sticks out, but when they are locked you can push the button in and it stays flush with the box. Makes it nice as I can see if my box is locked just by looking in my mirrors. The buttons did freeze the other day, but thats was okay, because the latch and higne along with my doors and windows were froze also.

Also. If you get a box with a latch handle on only one side. And you get into the box on any kinda of regular basis, you will grow to hate the box. AS every time you need to open it, the handle will be on the other side.

Well Nick with a truck your size (I don't know how tall you are) you might have to get in the bed to get stuff out anyway. With my center latches I can open the box from not being in the truck, but I still can't reach the stuff in the middle.

Just a suggestion, since yours looks about the same as my box. I went to Lowe's and bought two of these (i think) 1/2" eye loops, 2 extra nuts, two regular washers for the front, and two huge washers for the inside and mounted it to the box for a front tie down. Very handy

 

oh, im 6'2. i really want to just reach over from the side and get stuff out, i really dont want to get in the bed to get my stuff out

 

Oh you'll be fine then. I'd have to get in the bed no matter what kind of box I had to get the stuff out of the middle

What are you putting in there?

THAT makes all the difference in the world what kind of box you get. If you are just putting in stick to get you out of a sink hole, the flush mount box, or the low pro are great.

If you plan on using it for work, or carrying around equipment you need daily, I suggest a larger one. I have a contractors series box in my Dodge, and a low pro in my Ranger. The low profile is great for just my basic hand tools, straps, and stuff to get me unstuck, but terrible for my job. The contractors series is just so much better (not only that, but a full size is way better for work, too, LOL!).

 

I got the "classic" style. i like it alot. loads of room. I kinda needed that style to accommodate the tonneau cover. It is a UWS an i think i paid 375 for it. I saw some polished box at Fleet Farm for 200 but they are for full width beds. Black boxes are gonna more spenive.

and about what im plan on putting in it; fire gear, tie downs, straps...thats pretty much it. maybe some other little stuff.

 

ya im going to do something like that i was thinking about getting the things you tie a boat to on a pier but i haven't made up my mind yet
