Air Conditioning

Checked A/C on 2002 Ranger recently and topped off with 134a refrigerant. Works great. Reason I started looking into A/C is because I noticed a long delay in the compressor coming in when I activated it on switch. A few times heading from boat ramp it seemed the compressor did not come in for 10-15 minutes after activation. The charge was slightly low but that was not the problem. Has anyone had this issue? Thanks for any input

I was having this same problem (2002, 4.0, XLT). It turned out to be the A/C compressor clutch relay. It's the one in position 47A in the fuse box under the hood. A quick way to check is to swap it out with one of the other ones that you know are good. I traded places the windshield wiper relay (45B). It started working right away.

Thanks for info. I should have thought of the relays. That seems to be the problem. Pulled to relays and cleaned both. Everything seems to be working now. Thanks for responding.
