Bed tent
Bed tent
I'm going on my first desert trip next month and I needed something to sleep in. My partner at work suggested a bed tent. He told me he made one for his old Mazda pick up and could help me make one. So last weekend we went out bought some PVC and a canvas(?) and got to work.
Here are pictures of the frame.

We angled the PVC in the bed slots enough to where they sit in there fairly snug. The Canvas will be held down by 6 2' bungy cords.
This is the night of my first Desert trip.

nice i like the idea i have been tossing up a similar one but using electrical conduit... canvass is too expensive though, and i have a tent i put on the ground so kinda threw my idea out the window...

Yeah the real Truck tent looks a lot better then mine...but mine was only $45 :)
I will toss a couple more pictures up this weekend, I have to finish the tie down holes. My friend didn't sue them up well enough >.<

If I want to sleep in the back of my truck, I am set where ever I go...

That is one awesome Jeep. I saw cap like that made for the Ranger, but it was about 8 years old and the company went out of business. It's a pretty cool concept if you go wheelin/camping enough to need one.
Nice build. I usually just put a blow up twin mattress in the back of my truck and put the ez pop up canopy (10'x10') over my bed. I don't get a drop of water in the bed (my truck meets the canopy so it makes almost like a slope/seal), and it is still open and fresh air can come in.
I did have the topper like trigger, but it's hot, hard to climb into, and not very big for 2 people. Trust me, it's better than nothing, but I like open air camping :) nothing like the breeze to wake you up in the AM followed by an ice cold BEEER!!

there actully was one of em for sale on craigslist here, dude got like 10 calls in an hour lmoa
Drape over with six bungy cords. I'll try to get a couple more pictures up this weekend.
Also with the canvas maybe you could cut the cross bars from the top a little long and angle the t's so the roof has more of a dome to it. That way if it rains or whatever it would help roll off the top rather than puddle and casue it to sag. PVC is really easy to bend like that. Basically like the tensioner bars for a flat fabric tonnaeu cover.
the guys that make that jeep do a ford as well...
