Bought some Krylon...

I've been wanting to paint the grill and possibly the fog light bezels with a can of black krylon fusion (to get rid of that gray plastic look on a black truck). Since I generally suck at painting, does anyone have some tips they would like to share?

Clean the surface well. When you paint do lots of really thin coats about 5 min aparts. That has always worked the best for me.

Scour the surface if its incredibly smooth. Uhh..make sure its dry...take cloth(that doesn't tear slowly apart, like shop rags!) and wipe down surface with acetone or some type of cleaner. You can tell its the right cleaner if it makes you light headed.

and most importantly...

DO LIGHT COATS! DO NOT OVERSPRAY!

I'm not sure if i have done a project in my life that i haven't oversprayed...

I have used the Krylon fusion on some of my exterior pieces, and it will crack/fade. If you don't mind doing it yearly, then it will be fine. Just clean the surface REALLY good, with rubbing alcohol, and let it dry. The spray light coats. I would put some clear on it, but that is up to you.

If I ever redo some of my plastic parts, then I will definitely use an adhesion promoter, primer, and exterior paint. But then again, if it is flexible, then Krylon Fusion would be best.

Ok, I have rambled enough. Just clean it real good, and spray light coats. It will be fine, lol.

Is it the same with interior peices too? like the radio bezel? Just get the rubber stuff off, then ? what ?. Do you have to sand it to get a rough type surface or not?

Does anyone have anything good to say about the plasti-kote paint? I bought about 3 cans of oxford white for when i re-do my bumper/grille this summer.
