Fenderwell Covers Read Please

Ok, I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't seem to find it. My 05 Ranger came with a cover type thing on the passenger side fenderwell, however, the driver side did not. Does anyone know if this is an available part. Also do they make a plastic fenderwell for the rear? My dad had a Dodge a couple years back that he was able to order a full plastic fenderwell for the rear to keep mud, dirt, or anything from going under the bed/fenders. Any help is appreciated.

acutally, if your talking about the flap covering your engine bay in the wheel well, they stopped putting in the driverside in 02 or so, makes it easier for oil changes (?)

you can just get a passenger one and put it on inside out, or make a set

Oil changes? Hmm... that makes no sense. My filter is on the passenger side, how would a cover on the driver side affect that?

Since I don't live where it's extremely hot and I don't run gasohol, I installed a second PS guard on the DS. The PS shield is identical to the DS shield on earlier models except the pins are pushed in backwards. The added shield keeps the engine compartment MUCH cleaner in muddy conditions. A very worthwhile mod.

Don't bother trying to order a new DS guard from an earlier model Ranger (like I did the first time, LOL). The part number has been superseded to a 1/4 length guard that is completely useless. Just go to a junkyard or order a new PS guard from the dealer - mine cost $14 new a couple of years ago.

PS part number: F87Z-16102-AA
That is the correct number for my 2003 and I would guess that newer trucks use the same.

It also helps to reverse the push pins and install both of the splash guards on the inside of the plastic inner fenders instead of the outside like they are from the factory. That way, they don't get ripped off by the tires as easily when offroading.

You will probably need to repunch the rear two holes in the rubber to get everything to line up - easy.

This simple mod gives extra clearance and, just as importantly, hides the prominent top edge that the tires like to grab hold of while turning.

Here is the remounted shield. At the top of the photo, you can see the "witness mark" on the inner fender where the splash shield used to be on the outside:

This view shows the inside of the inner fender with the reversed push pins and the repunched holes. (You don't need to pull the inner fenders to reverse the shields. I took this picture when I was installing headers and had the inner fenders off for access):

Swoop discovers the "missing" splash shield. Notice how much more mud made its way into the DS of the engine compartment:

Never seen those but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Maybe you could be the first to adapt a set from something else.

I was actually looking this up like, 5 min. before he posted. I really like that entry (it answered everything.. AND it showed Swoop looking astonished, haha).

Great post guys!

Was looking at this issue as well when I got my lift installed this spring.

Will look it up at the local dealership and see how much this guard/flap will cost me.

Can't you just use ERV's gap guards, I'll have to look up if they were front or rear but I remember them solving problems

Hey guys new to the board....

My 03 Ranger Edge didnt have it but my dads b3000 did. I went to Ford and they said that some 03s had them and some did not and he couldnt find a part number. Until he looked at one for a 02. Ordered the 02 and it fit perfect.

I tried that and the DS part number for the 2002-back had been superceded to the short 1/4 shield (useless) as installed on some of the 2003's.

The way around that problem is to order the full-length passenger side shield and reverse the push pins - then it fits perfectly on the driver side. The part number for the PS is F87Z-16102-AA and I paid $14 a couple of years ago.
