flowmaster....borla....BLAH
I have magnaflow, ill stick with what i like, havnt heard Borla, from what i gathered here it sounds similiar to the magnaflow, maybe different tone wise. Everyone on hear says flowmaster is loud, if you like loud and obnoxious go that route, (listen to teh clip on the link crawly1025 has and see for yourself)
What i do know, is Gibson makes the rangers sound ricey as hell, i had a 2 - 3.0 King cab rangers with the leaf on the tailgate, next to me at a set of lights today and it sounded like an import! I thought flowmaster sounded bad, if i had that exhaust he had on here on my truck ide b ashamed to fire it up in the morning. One of them had the dual one out the pass side. and one had the one out in the back corners and the pipes look like they were 3/4 of an inch around lol. Both automatics.

mine can't really be classified as "loud as hell" I think it sounds really nice. ive even had my neighbors comment on it which is better then throwing things at me for being too noisy. Mine is just a nice low rumble, not obnoxious at all. I was concerned it was going to sound like a ricer with a coffee can muffler...im glad i was wrong lol
I havent listened to the link on the site...thats why i made a clip for him to listen to. Zach's right though, the 3.0 will sound different then the 4.0.....but maybe it'll give him an idea.
I'm brand stubborn....its only Flowmaster for me.

i agree with Gary....i think the Gibson sounds pretty nice. It probably does depend on the type of muffler and exit you get.
In that respect, I guess my Flow might rumble a little too loud for some....but I didn't get a Flowmaster for anyone else. That what you have to make your decision on in the end.....what sounds best to YOU....cause YOU have to drive it.
I love my Flow 40

Honestly, Borla, Flowmaster, they sound real similiar.
Its the motor that gives you sound, not the muffler. The muffler can change the tone a bit, but the motor is the main source. Evan (rangererv) has an 01 4.0, same as mine, i think he might have 3,000 more miles than me, maybe.
Anyway, mine with the borla is deeper and more mellow, his is higher pitched and has the flowmaster tone, a little more "throaty-ish" if you know what i mean....

Ive heard 2 gibsons, unless i hear a 3rd that sounds really good they both sounded the same like s**t. Plain and simple lol. If you parked an Eclipse with a fart can next to them you coulndt tell a bit of difference. Ide take a flowmaster over that anyday and i think flowmasters are way to loud!
I wanna have my exhaust done like crawly's (pictures on page 1)....I dont think borla sounds like flowmaster i didnt think, i think borla sounds more like magnaflow myself. More of a tone with the borla. And its not so much the motor that makes the sound. Its the size of the case of the muffler, the smaller the case, the louder, ie flowmaster 40 is shorter then the 50 series, which is why it would be louder, you want REALLY loud get the flowmaster race muffler (single chamber, 1 baffle).
Heres some videos of my Borla Exhaust, its my first time doing this type of thing, so here you go.

I'm surprised Barrman hasn't posted here as he has a Borla on his 3.0. He LOVEs his exhaust, I personally preferred the Magnaflow on my 3.0. I think the Magnaflow is a deeper and more "v8-ish" sound, where as the Borla sounds more refined like a Porsche. Personally, I am not a fan of Porsche exhausts...but some people LOVE them, if you do, Borla is for you.

I have a 2002 Ranger XLT 4x4 super cab with the 4.0L SOHC. I just have a flowtech red hot glasspack welded in place of the stock muffler, and a 4" stainless steel tip. It doesn't sound too bad, I wish It had a little deeper rumble to it. I've never heard a 4.0L with a flowmaster, or borla system. I went with the glasspack because I was looking for alot of exhaust flow. I will probly change it to a dynomax ultraflo welded, or a magna flow muffler. I just want something that flows like crazy. The flowmaster sounds nice, but they don't flow the best CFM. A dynomax ultraflo with the straight through design will out flow a 40 series by over 50% (1000cfm vs. 475cfm).
