I've got an 06 sport and was wondering if the 04-05 grille is a comparable swap?? Saw this grille on eBay and dig it better than the stock 06. Lookin to install some of the red ring hid offroad lights behind the grille. Any feedback would be great.

what im looking to do is get a black horizontal billet for the upper/lower grill and install 2 4" red ring HID offroad lights behind the grille. With the OEM grille i have on my 06, i would have to cut out the main section and it wouldnt look clean. Something like this tacoma but my OEM grille wont work.

 

The billet will give you more room and look better.

 

o8/09 sport grilles are the STX grilles, they are rare as hell to find

Yes but for the billet, don't order no name ebay crap, get a carriage works.

 

So you have heard it before, get Carriage Works.
I don’t own one but have seem them, they are nice and of course not cheap but you get what you pay for and get the full width one not the three piece one; IMO it looks better.

Also, how are you thinking about the lights behind the grille thing ?
Will you cut holes in the new grille or just mount them behind ?

 

Looking to mount them behind the billet. My buddy has some behind his billet and there is still plenty of light output. Has anyone ordered an eBay replacement grille like I posted above? Are they good quality like oem or are they dog ****??

You'll be fine with the eBay oem replacement. I did an 01-03 swap for a members 99 last year using eBay parts and it still looks good
For the billet, please get a carriage works. They come in black too

 

X1000 on the Carriage Works insert. Well worth the extra money.
