Has anyone ever done this?

hello everyone, new to this forum. ok my question is has anyone ever removed their bedrail/side covers? i think they came on some edge/xlt's. i dont know what they're called exactly, theyre the caps on the bedsides that r that ugly gray plastic, i have a sonic blue edge and i want to take them off and paint them a flat black, im thinking they'll look better like that. the thing is i cant figure out how to take the suckers off...any ideas?

I took mine off. All I needed was an allen wrench. There are little pop out coverings on the top that come off revealing the screws.

the quicker you remove them the better. They will rub into the paint. If you are gonna put spray bedliner on you can have it go over the top of the rails to cover the scratches.

Howdy Fabian. After you paint them post a picture of how they turned out. I was thinking about getting the bed rails to cover up my scratches. I think painting the wil look nice.

If you are talking about those hideous Bedrail covers all XLT and Edge Shortboxes got standard in 01-02, Look for Dents too. My 01 ad those and I took them off the day I got them home and thos stupid things were clamped on so tight from the factory that I had little stupid dents all down the bedrails. I hate thos things! I have no Idea what ford was thinking!

I say try Krylon or something, maybe in a matte or flat black. As to taking them off, there will little plastic covers on the inside of the rail. I believe there are 3 points (front, middle, back) where clamps are. You will see them when you look under there. Use an allen wrench to take them off. You'll also need to pop 'em off because at the ends there's a section where a portion of the rail goes into the hole. It's super easy to do. I took mine off and left them off because of the scratches. Good luck.

Nope, no one has ever done this, they are chemically bonded to the truck bed and cannot be physically removed.

You have a step-side or style-side??

If you have a step-side you definitely wanna keep those suckers on. It's not pretty under there! I've had them all off a countless number of times.
