Interchangable beds

Are the 99-02 Ranger truck beads interchangeable with newer Rangers i.e. 2011 standard bed vs.stepside/flareside?

1993 to 2011 6ft beds are interchangeable, the 6ft beds were used on regular cabs and extended cabs
The 7ft beds will only fit "long bed Rangers", rear frame is different

Tail light lens's are also interchangeable but wiring is not, 1993 to 1999 Rangers used 3-wire harness, separate rear turn signal bulbs
2000-2011 used 2-wire, brake and turn shared 1 bulb
So if you swap between these years install your years tail light lens's and wiring harness in the new bed

Mounting-wise and tail light lens wise, smooth side(style side) or step side(flare side) doesn't matter
But the step side bed used a different tail gate and bumper also different filler tube

I think 2004 was the last year for the "step side" in Rangers, I didn't see it listed in the 2005 Ranger brochure but is in the 2004 brochure

Interchangeable beds.

Thank you RonD. Your answer was quite cmplete I have a 99 stepside and am looking for a newer Ranger I am not over whelemed with the new Ranger/150 look alike size so i am limited to 2011. I love the style of the StepSide but you are correct about 2004. It is difficult to find another stepside so I am consiedring an newer truck, swap the beds and sell the 99 with standard short bed. this is one of the best vechicles i have owned for personel use. 4.0 auto 2 wheel extended cab all accessories including sirius Radio, forest Green. Here is one for you. A cj7 jeep hitch will fit the front of the Ranger with a 1in shim direct bolt on. Two reasons: Backing a trailer into a nawow space gives you more manuverability. Add a 90 degree to the hitch with a 6' tee and you can carry a 20 ft pipe or 2x4 from the front hitch to the back hitch Right now I am dealing with a known problem of the cracked head lack of compressin in cyl 4. It is a good time to find another truck while I lay this down for a simple head swap. Tom / San Diego

lay this one up to do the head swaap

No reason you couldn't do that

The later model beds will have 8 bolts instead of 6 holding bed to frame, but the 2 added bolts didn't change the original 6 bolt alignment, so 1999 bed will bolt to 2011 frame same as the 1999 frame with just 6 bolts
Swap bumper and filler over as well

As for the tail light lens's, easiest would be to swap over 2011 lens's to 1999 bed, and visa versa

But you can buy "2 to 3 wire" adapters, used for trailer lights, and "3 to 2 wire" for trailer lights, you would of course need one of each to swap beds
These units are made to be exposed to weather under rear of a vehicle where trailer light plug would be
But you would really have to LIKE the separate turn bulbs to do this, lol
