License Plate Covers
License Plate Covers
Just wondering if anybody else has a smoke colored license plate cover.
I had my dark smoke cover on since I got the truck back in 97 or 98 & never looked at it at night. I was checking out the lights last night & noticed that my plate lights do absolutely nothing to illuminate my plate. If a vehicle is behind me, the plate shows up just fine.
Guess I'm lucky I've never been pulled over for it.

I have one on my truck. Never had any problems. My mom had one and got pulled over once in her old Audi really late at night for it, but the cop was just looking for DUI's so he just told her to they are illegal and to take it off the next morning please.
i've got'em...it's hard as heck to find a plain old flat un-bowed shaded cover...but i found 'em...and now i need a new one. lol. gotta find 'em again.
honestly...i like it this way....i have lisence plate lights.....yes i have a cover...yes it doesn't light up the way it's 'desired' to...but i honestly dont care...and have been rockin' it for a long time like this. i meet vehicle codes...so why does it really matter?

I want to put a sheet of electrochemical glass over my plate, and wire a relay to it, and the TPS sensor input going to my ecu. This way, when I go open-loop at WOT, shabam, my plate goes fuzzed out.

I've actually seen that before.
I have a smoked one on my front, but just have a chrome frame on the rear.
In Ontario, your registration stickers go on the front plate for trucks and rear plates for cars, vans and sport utilities. I've never been hassled for my cover(s) on any vehicles. I usually put smoked covers on the front and back of my vehicles. I like the look and I kinda like my plate to be a little inconspicuous at times...

I have em front and rear, well had em front and rear before I ripped my front licence plate bracket off the other night on a snow bank (ooops).
I've never really had issue with the cops and mine, got a warning once for it, but I told the cop I bought the truck with em (truth) and had no idea what the history or what the deal was with them.
He told me to take em off... so, eventually I'll get around to it...

I had smoked plate covers on the front and rear plates of my Ranger for a few years until a cop pointed them out during a R.I.D.E check. He had pointed out that my tint was illegal, the plate covers were illegal, and that my corner lights had no amber reflector on them.....this guy was on a total power trip. The whole point of the R.I.D.E checks are to nab impaired drivers and those not wearing seat belts. I politely smiled, said I hadn't been drinking, and then drove off. I swapped the smoked covers for some clear ones just to be safe. But I haven't been stopped since.

I've been runnng tinted plate covers for about 5 years with no problems whatsoever.
