you can do it from underneath if you have a ratcheting wrench. The easiest by far is what Peter said. Pop off the front grill and you have full access while on two feet.

When I installed mine, I just pulled the grill out and I was done in about 5 minutes.

i have a set on the way, but i put the ones i made on for a sec, and i pulled the grill. i used a socket on the drivers side and a racheting box wrench on the passanger because of the transcooler. i suggest spraying some penatrating lube on them to ge tthe rust off. now who mount the lights then mount the tabs? or do you mount the lights after the tabs?

Could you modify the light tabs or somehow turn them around so the fog lights are behind or inside the grill so to say?

There'll probably look like stairs. I don;'t know how the 98-00 grilles attach...but on a 01-08, the header panel will be in the way. I dont think there's any way to modify a set of tabs to make it work the way you want. The lights won't fit in the grille if it just goes straight up....i'm sureit can be done, if completely different brackets are made.

Thats not a bad idea Ory. I think they will be too far apart though unless you connected a bar to them to relocate the lights closer to the center. The other thing that crosses my mind would be the tranny cooler. Not sure if that would get in the way if you have an automatic. You have me interested enough to take a peek behind the grill.

Jason, send me some measurements and I'll make them per your specs. You should be able to place a tape measure to the back of the bumper and let me know how far out it can go before hitting. My Bracket comes out 6" with the center of the hole at 5" from the back of the bumper.

This will show you the general location of where the tabs come out:
