Lund lighted Cab Visor crowdsourcing opinoins

i was thinking of installing some cab lights on my ranger. i have always liked the way the look.
then i came across this beauty on Summit racing
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/s...d/model/ranger
i am slightly nervous about putting holes in the roof of my truck though.

I wanted to ask the group a couple of questions
1: does anyone have installed pictures how do they look, are you happy with the result?
2: what does this do for wind noise? has anyone noticed an increase in wind noise on the highway
3: what does it do to fuel economy. I know an average of 16 mpg is not great. (4.0 with 4.10s) but i dont think i want to make it much worse for the sake of vanity

if you have installed one, any tips or tricks for getting it lined up correctly? In all honesty i am not great at "eyeing" things. are there any marks or reference points on the truck to make it easier?
what did you do for the color? Did you take it to a body shop? i have read about people having good luck with the duplicolor and clear coating it themselves. Just wondering.

thanks for taking the time to read my post

I have a visor to go on my truck and I have test fit it but not yet installed it since it needs minor fiberglass repair. However, mine has downward curving "wings" on both ends that fit at the front corner where the doors and windshield meet. As for painting, I'll be sending mine to the body shop with the truck since I am planning for the truck to be painted. Otherwise, the owner of the shop told me I could use spray can of touch up paint in my chosen color.

I wanted to ask the group a couple of questions
1: does anyone have installed pictures how do they look, are you happy with the result?
A: NO, but will in a week or two, (IF that helps) !

2: what does this do for wind noise? has anyone noticed an increase in wind noise on the highway
A: On my '88 STX High Rider 4X, with a Lund Visor, I didn't notice any noise increase.

3: what does it do to fuel economy. I know an average of 16 mpg is not great. (4.0 with 4.10s) but i dont think i want to make it much worse for the sake of vanity
A: I had a 5.0L in the '88 and I got approximately 20 avg. mpg.

if you have installed one, any tips or tricks for getting it lined up correctly? In all honesty i am not great at "eyeing" things. are there any marks or reference points on the truck to make it easier?
A: The roof on the '88 has a curvature built in and the only way to make sure is flat to the roof is eyeball it, or have a friend do the eyeballing. I looked for the RIGHT look not is it perfectly level. there are plenty of ways to build a leveling device but cost, time vs practicality come in the picture.

what did you do for the color? Did you take it to a body shop? i have read about people having good luck with the duplicolor and clear coating it themselves. Just wondering.
A: Body shop matched the Truck Color. If you are good with a Spray Bomb, give it a shot.

This probably won't answer all of your question but it might generate more questions but I hope it helps.

I have an older, less rounded, Lund Visor, circa 1995ish, just it is not installed yet.

There is a slight variation in the older models Visor squared off vs the newer rounded version and it may take a little modifying to get it to fit and look good, but I am going to start that project soon.

It is lighted but not with a newer Lighting Kit from Lund.
I can get pictures if you need them but I don't have them right now.

I think a Ranger looks GREAT with a Lund Visor and the lights add a different look.
When I connect the lights, I will wire them in the Headlight/Parking light circuit but I will have an additional switch to turn them off if I want... NOT !

Here is the procedure that I will use when tackling my 2003 Visor Project.

1) Tape up the front of the cab roof where the Visor will sit to reduce scratching the roof area, using the Blue painters tape..
2) Tape the visor in place over the first tape applied, using the Blue painters tape.
3) Step back and take a look, decide what I are seeing and have another, my wife, take a look and see if we agree on placement.
4) Then, if needed, while the helper is looking, adjust the Visor to where you both think it looks right. You might need to add additional tape, just in case.
5) Step back and decide if you like the look, check if you want to see if it is level to or as close as possible to level, to the roof.
6) Once you are satisfied, mark the holes.
7) Drill the holes using the smallest drill for the Screw Size, allowing for a good secure mounting location and use washers inside of the Cap/Covers for the bolts.
NOTE: if you are using a lighted visor, make sure to drill an extra hole for the wiring; which will mean you will need to take the inside trim off the Windshield Post area to get the wire and pull it through. Leave enough wire so you will be able to run the wiring where needed.
Also, make sure the wire hole location is positioned so there is minimal air being forced against it while moving, somewhere under the side portion of the visor, and use a good sealer around the screw and wire holes, all this to eliminate any water getting in.
8) Start all of the screws but not too tight just yet. Drive all of the screws in place, adjust the Visor so it is square to the truck, step back and take a look. If it looks good, start from the middle of the visor and secure all of the screws with light pressure, and again step back and look see. Now secure all of the screws starting from the center in a circular pattern and with enough pressure to set the sealer used on the holes. Just how much pressure should be applied, i.e. Torque, is dependent on the screws and the metal the screw are going into.

Good Luck, to me it is a great mod and one person can do it but two are better than one.
Any questions ask... Hope it all goes well.

Thanks for asking!
i ended up doing the cab lights.
Getting it painted was going to cost a ton, which in and of itself was not a huge deal. but when i was mocking it up, i did not love the lines of the cab visor with the lines of the cab. i could not quite put my finger on it - i know that does not help.
so i ended up not using it.
i am waiting for some warmer weather to get back at it.
