I'm happy how my tails turned out with it, but not so much on my corners.

If you want BLACK, black chrome is not the paint to use because it's more of a smoke or charcoal colour.

 

I think tomorrow I'm going to change up my lights. I'm taking the tint off my corners and going to red out my tails like on my B2200 and not tint them.

 

i was not really trying to get really dark tails just slightly tinted it just turned out really foggy. your taillights look sweet though, thats how i wanted mine to look but it did not work out lol

 

Did you clearcoat or wetsand them? Without that they will look dull.

I just re-did my tails. I took the tint off and I made them all red with no tint.

 

so do amber lenses look like **** when you shade them, cause they turn red?

i let him do his own lights, needless to say i'll be doing the tails

 

Yeah I just did my nightshade on my tails and I guess I didnt go very light cause they kept running on me. Anyways im not to happy with the finish, it is even but its not smooth. I read I can wetsand it and then clear coat it... how do I wetsand and will that help make the finish look better? what kind of brand and type of clear coat should I buy?

yes, amber that is nitehsaded looks like ***, and usually looks reddish in the right light.

lol i cant find nightshade anywere here.... and im just to lazy to order it... (takes forever to get here... plus hell lot more expensive..)

what are the alternatives for the nightshade product? Metalcast Black Chrome? or other one i could use?

 

I did my corner lights as a bored project one day. I found the stuff really hard to apply in smooth coats, it runs soo easy and cant get a thick enough coat to make it look glossy. So what I ended up doing was applying like 5 super thin coats, saned them again with something like 1000 grit. Brought them into my shop and had one of the painters put a coat of clear on them for me and they turned out really nice! Mabey a bit too dark, so when i get around to doing the tail's i will only put 3 coats on.

 

That's how you're supposed to do it, with thin coats.

Like any other paint, if you lay it on thick, it's just going to run or crackle.

 

Looks like I already showed off the tails on my ranger in page 1 that I blasted with nightshade, here's the very few light coats I did on my F150, just wanted to change the color a bit. But this time I took it to a body shop to have professionally cleared just to see if the results were better than my last set... and it's a definate yes!

So will a rattle can clear do the job? I just did this last night and plan on finishing it up tonight.

Ya it will, look on the first page I posted pics of my ranger when I nightshaded the tails then clear coated and wetsanded and polished them

If it looks like crap or not up to your standards just take it to a body shop and tell them to hit it with clear, like I did on the F150 a few posts above

i sanded mine with 200 grit paper then cleaned them with soap and water. then 3 coats of nightshade and 3 coats of clear.

Eric thoes F150 tails look awesome. Sometime I will get me a can of Nite-shade and get mine to look like that.

defin one of the easiest mods to do, and to think a body shop was gonna try and charge 140 to do my 08. I just spent one sunday afternoon and saved about 100 dollars

 

Not too light at all. Looks just right to me, still shows up red without being dark.
I think if I do anything with mine I'll just order new Harley tails for around $100 shipped.

in like 50 years, when our rangers are considered antiques, all of them will have tinted lights lol, i love them, i need to do mine
