so when i had my truck linexed, i asked that they remove the bed mounting bolts because i figured someday i would do a body lift. well they never removed the bolts and now im doing a body lift is there some special way to remove these bolts now that they have been linexed over? or should i break out the grinder? im just going to put some spray on bed liner over the the new bolts so if i try and impact them out you think it would work?

mine were rhino lined over by the previous owner....what i ended up doing was taking a torch and a box cutter and heated up the blade on the box cutter and used it to cut the bedliner off...if it didnt work i heated up the bed liner on the bolt than used the box cutter...worked well for me.

 

not a bad idea, i was kinda thinking an exacto knife might work but i figured id prob go though $20 of blades lol. i'll have to give heating the knife and bolts a shot.

 

just dont breath in the fumes. i did a few times, dont think its the best thing to be breathing. lol

Line-X has a life time warranty, just impact the bolts out, put the BL on then go back and have them do it right. If they go over the bolts again just tell them to redo it until they get it right. that's what I would do.

 

that is true, does anyone know off-hand what size torx bit the bed bolts are?? because the linex is inside the bolt heads im worried i might strip out the head because i accidently use the wrong size bit

 

id bring it back to them and have them take them out since its there f-up in the first place

Yea take it back and have them take the line-x off. I have had mine line-xed twice and didnt even ask them and they always masked off the bolts.

You also have to remember that Line-X isnt in the retail applicating business. Theyre all franchises and as such, there are bound to be some idiots. i am actually kind of amazed that they wouldnt take out the bed bolts... total laziness on their part, now they get to do it all over again.

 

all we did on a rhino'ed truck was cut out the head enough to get the t55 on it and impacted it out it kind ripped when coming out then ran the new bolts and washers on top of it, and you never even knew.

 

Go get a cheepo torx bit heat it up then use it to melt the linex out of the bolts then just impact them out.

 

they covered mine when i first got it coated, i asked about the bolts, and they said that if i needed to take them out they would re coat it. well fast forward a few years when i did the body lift i cut the bolt heads out (through 2 layers because i had to have them repair it before) i had to pay to get it partially re done. wanna talk about pissed? i even talked to the owner. they are a bunch of crooks but the only way i can get warranted work done by someone else is if i move over 100 miles away from the place that i originally got it done at. that is rhino lining at the local zeibarts franchise.

 

that sucks man, when I got my bed line-x they took out all my bed bolts out including the tailgate ones and I never asked them to do it.

 

That sucks dude, I got my linex done through Cap it in langley and they removed my bolts before spraying.

 

When mine was Line-X'd, they took the bolts out without me asking. I was kind of upset at first but they told me they would be difficult to remove with the coating going over them. I realized they were right and thanked them. When I got home I decide to re-torque them to make sure they were tight. I found out they had put a couple bolt in the wrong holes. They are different lengths and one bolt did not reach the nut so it was just setting in the hole. Whoever put the bolts back must have been lazy and just left it like that. I ended up taking them all out and reinstalling them in the right location.

That doesn't help you much in getting your bolts out but I think the hot blade idea should work well. I agree on being careful not to over heat Line-X. It is polyurethane and will produce toxic fumes if overheated.

 

Use heat, mine are covered also.

 

The place I had mine done at wouldn't touch the bed bolts cause then they'd be liable if they didn't torque them right. I didn't care as I hate body lifts so the only way they would ever come out is if it was in an accident and I am sure a body shop could deal with it.
