They came on a wide variety of trucks. A lot of people call them "Edge" bed rail caps since a lot of the Edge trim trucks came with them, however I've seen them on 4x2 and 4x4 XLT's.

They were only available 2001-2002, and maybe 2003.

As far as where to find them, you just have to search around. Occasionally they pop up on one of the multiple Ranger forums. Also check your local Craigslist. A buddy found the first set I had on Craigslist, and I just recently bought another set from Craigslist to replace the first set that I sold.

A little off topic, but what is the point of them? I've never seen them in person. Do they offer more tie down spots? Or is it just protection for the bed rails?

Appearance, and protection. Just an attempt to make the trucks look more rugged.

The protection is kind of give and take. They would protect against a not to hard impact but they also wear out the paint under them. Mine were on a very short time before I removed them to install my shell. They had already scuffed the paint fairly deep.

If you plan to leave them on, then it won't show but bare metal will rust. Probably the best combination of protection would be a bed liner coating plus the side rails. I think they would still fit with the bed liner.
