Removing Mirror Cap on an 08

is there a way to remove the cap on the back of the mirrors on an 08?i have turn signal lights wired underneath my mirrors and was in toronto yesterday, and was way too tall to fit into ANY parking garage (max height 6 feet ) so i had to park on the street and it looks like someone walked into my mirror. I guess when the mirror folded in it may have cut a wire or something, now i have no left turn signal so i need to fix this asap. popping that back cover off would make life pretty easy or even if there is a way to pop out the mirror without breaking anything that would be pretty nice too. help is much appreciated, thanks!

Are you trying to take the mirror off?

When you remove the cap on them (Im guessing you have the chrome caps) it doesn't open up the back of the mirror. I'm pretty sure it's just little tabs around the chrome piece that hold it into position.

Ok so I saw that you have DSG ones. There's no way you can get to it but to take the door panel off and take the mirror off.

Old but I wanted to replace my caps with painted ones. I currently have the chrome ones. What is the best method on removing the caps?

Are they simply held in by tabs or are there actual screws/torq screws holding them inside the mirror housing? Can't tell but the two center posts look like they have a hole in them for screws?

I found this picture:

Looks to me it's likely tabs only.

That, or on the end of those tabs are those funny nut type things that hold onto plastic for a screw to go through; you know, the ones that always seize up.....

It's just tabs. But you have to be careful because it's easy to break them off.
