As stated in my intro post, my truck has flames spray painted(intentionally not by me). Any help getting just the flames off and keeping the paint under it?

 

Usually some acetone will remove improperly prepped paintwork. I would then get the areas buffed out.

 

all depends if the original paint was sanded before he painted...if so ur screwed. id just paint the fenders and call it a done deal

Good lord that's terrible. I don't blame you for wanting to paint over that.

 

My that is terrible looking!! I would just paint the front end if i was you..

 

Try some laquer thinner and see how that works. It might could the factory paint underneath it, but if it hasn't been sanded then you should just be able to polish it back up. To do it properly, you would need to sand and paint the front end to make it right, but well, there's a time and a place for that much work right? I'd try to wash it off with thinner first. It doesn't look the highest quality job so I'm sure it won't take much to remove it.

 

BTW looking at it closer, you are probably gonna totally wreck the factory tape stripe.

Hard to tell from the pic, but it looks very thin and not prepped at all. If that's the case, I'd be inclined to try hitting it with some 800 grit wet to get it off, then do some light wet sandind with 1500, then buff it. Worse case, it might need to be re-cleared, unless there are any chips in the original paint.

On a positive note, if you have to paint, you could color match the grill/headlight surround while you're at it.

 

^true! The guy even painted the grille a little bit too. Worse case, I'll strip the paint off and leave the chrome, or paint...
