Suicide door latch

Any thoughts on opening the suicide doors when the lower latch doesn’t function? I have the interior panel off and can see the latch but the release doesn’t work and I’m at a loss how to get the door open so I can replace the latch. It’s an ‘08, btw.

Thanks Ron. The problem is the latch mechanism seems broken. I can move the latch but it doesn’t release the door and I can’t figure out how to get at the catch itself.

Only thing I can think of is to use a sawzall under the door and cut off the catch/striker

Is it broken, or rusted in place?

Exactly what I was thinking. The rockers on the 08 are open underneath and I can see the striker bolts. Don’t see a more elegant solution. Thanks for the confirmation, Ron.

The release mechanism (lever) appears to be broken. No way can I get the release to work. RonD confirmed my idea of cutting the striker loose from the chassis. Once I get the door open I can rebuild. Already have new catches and both sides are pooched. Frustrating.
