canadian criminal code states:
sec. 130.
(1) Everyone commits an offence who
(a) falsely represents himself to be a peace officer or a public officer; or
(b) not being a peace officer or public officer, uses a badge or article of uniform or equipment in a manner that is likely to cause persons to believe that he is a peace officer or a public officer, as the case may be.
seen here: Criminal Code
being he is not representing himself as, or using a badge, or uniform or any other equipment which would identify him as a police or peace officer, this section in the criminal code of canada DOES NOT APPLY
i cannot comment on the US laws, as i don't know nearly enough of them or how they are set up

equipment = car marked as police or riot gear marked police...
if what you are saying were the case, everyone with an ex service p71 crown vic, would be arrested for impersonating... including a buddy of mine who used to work with police (he was not a cop) and parked this car, of his, which still had the strobes in the headlights and tails (albeit disconnected and no controller, but the bulbs were still in there) next to police cars quite often... this is how he bought it from a dealership...
i know it's a small picture, but it had black steel rims, chrome center caps, z rated tires (which were on it when it was in service) the strobes which you could still see in the headlights and tail lights, the "police interceptor" decal on the back, 95% tint on the rear windows, cloth front seats, vynal back, with the stab guard in the back of the front seats (metal plate in the back of the seat) switches all over the dash and a black imitation puck antenna on the rear deck lid... it was origionally a white marked car for the RCMP, but was painted black when it got to the dealership

Do you really think quarter inch lights inside the headlight housing will make someone think it is a cop? Or Z rated tires? How about the badge that shows the model of car, or a metal plate in the back of the seat? I don't think so. Were talking about putting a light bar on the roof of the car... Theres a reason why they take the light bars off when they auction decommissioned police cars off.. And no, when they buy a new Interceptor, they don't reuse them unless they are a very small dept.

there are lots of security departments with lights on the roofs... hell the transit vehicles make me think they are cops, because they have the 1.5" light bar on the roof, which is all clear, with amber LED's inside...
roof light bars aren't the discussion in here, but even then i stand by my statement that it's not impersonation...
they would take the red and blue off the roof, because red and blue is illegal to have on your vehicle (i know i said it wasn't earlier, i thought about it and i was wrong) regardless if it's being used, any time the police vehicles around here go to the shop for work (they use dealerships here) they get a thick leather cover with padlocks on it so they cannot be seen, and often, if they are going to be transported, they get door magnets that say not in service (which is also written on the light bar cover)
i should have mentioned that my buddy's car, looked so much like a police car, that police vehicles slowed down as they passed him... he was sitting at a red light one day, and a marked cruiser was coming from his left, on the cross street, doing about 80km/h in a 50 zone... saw my buddy's car, hit the brakes and gave a wave as if to say "sorry"
we later found out that the sargent from that area drives a virtually identical car
what i have said aside, it is a heat score... it will draw attention to you, and if a cop has a stick up his ***, and that's his peeve, people impersonating an officer, he's going to hit you with everything he can... but that is the same risk with lifting your vehicle, or lowering it, or tinting the windows, or having subs, or nice paint jobs, or loud mufflers...

^ nobody wants a light bar on there truck in this thread. op wanted a spot light to do his douchery with not a full bar. IBTL. ive also never heard or seen of a cop in a unmarked squad ranger geographicly or elsewhere, have seen dodge rams and f150. every police ranger up here has its stock silver wheels, no huge antennas and vinyl's from fender to tailgate. dont know why hed even call it a cop look all he wants is black wheels, bed cap and whip antennas, i dont think anyone would ever look at and go OMG HOLY TEH CR4PZ TEH POPOS

okay weezl's backed my up again (thanks btw)
i'm not talking about a light bar, i'm talking about a flood/fog lamp or two on a pushbar. i considered small AMBER LED's in the grille, like in the SVT Raptor (actually might be cool to wire to blink like turn signal lights too)
black rims wth center caps are in no way illegal
cmc474, i wasnt taking about strobes or anything in the headlight housing.
i'm not impersonating an officer, i like the "sleeper" look of the unmarked cars, the simple look, you know?
Casper98's truck is a good example of almost what i want to do, just a little higher, it wont be black, and with the camper cover on.
when i meantioned the "interceptor" badging i was more into just putting a project name on my truck.
DSFD506, thanks f the pic, how are those mounted? but i think i'd still rather use my bigass antenna, just because.
i know someone with a black ex-sergeant's car, (he got it because it was a cheap way to a big V8) like that picture you posted weezl, if what i want is illegal, how does he, and so many other people, manage to pull that off? honestly, every time i see a crown vic in a dark color i get nervous, as i'm sure i'm not the only one, then shouldnt crown vics be illegal because they all kinda look like cop cars?
its not like i'm painting it black and white, and like someone said up there ^^ its a ranger, if it was an excursion, it would be different, but its not. i want the simplicity of the look.

i would rock that truck so hardcore! i might even want a nice big decommissioned gun like that (i would probably weld it in the upright position like that, so no one could say i pointed it at them and made them fear for their life...)

Holly ****, I just thought how can that Ranger have that much weight in the bed? It cant have any suspension or something because compare the rear end to the other trucks in the background, there almost the same with the suspension height.
