i dont know

try to crawl under the front of the truck and look up under where the hood latch is. Then get something to pop the hood release. Sometimes a long screwdriver or a pry bar will work.

Your hood latch should look something like this:

If you can get under your truck and see it or feel it; you should be able to push on the release as the arrow is pointing.

Yeah, I'd prolly take the bumper off and reach on up there with a screwdriver or vise grips...

I know this thread is old, but I recently had an issue with my hood cable, apparently battery acid over the years had eaten away at the cable, and it snapped.

Using the picture Snow Wolf provided I was able to crawl under the truck, and theres a very small area where I took a very long prybar, approx 2 feet long, and was able to get it next to the latch (where the arrow is pointing) and pry it towards the driver side and opened the hood.

I then cut the bad section out of the cable, re-routed it out to behind the bumper so I can open my hood with pliers untill my new cable arrives.

Hope this helps someone down the line, if they ever have this issue.

thank you Stutgrtguy.
with our trucks getting older things like this are bound to happen.
so hopefully this does help someone down the road.

Yea somethin to watch, that cable runs awful close to the corner of your battery. Between the constant rubbin on the corner of the battery and a bit of acid, that oil change day becomes a new adventure...

Newly installed cable .. still wants to rub on the edge of the battery. Got that T-shirt already :P

Snow Wolf any chance of reposting that pic of the latch, for some reason I can't see it.

My 96 xlt ranger just had the dreaded hood won't open problem.....

Thanks, Lee
