Stereo/speaker issues

First off, I have an '07 Level II with the Pioneer 290W 6-disc stereo w/sub.

Long story short my speakers will only work while my truck is in Park or Neutral. As soon as I shift out of park no sound whatsoever comes out of the speakers! The radio still works as it doesn't shut off and it still shows the radio station and I can still switch through to AUX and then to CD where it'll still show what track is playing, what file is playing when I have an MP3 CD in and everything.

I'm not sure how, but could this have anything to do with splicing in my OHC? I did that a month ago and everything has been fine until this morning....

The speakers work fine when the key is turned to accessory. When I'm in R, D, 2 or 1 there is no sound but P & N are normal!

What engine do you have? The late 90's Taurses had a problem like that, the windows, radio sound and power steering would all go wacky in certain gears. The problem is that the transmission range sensor, a.k.a. neutral safety switch would wear out. However, I'm not sure if Rangers use that same device or not.

Hmmm... I'll have to give my old neighbour a call. He's a Ford Tech and might have heard of something.

Stopped by and talked to him tonight. He said the neutral safety switch is definitely a possibility, and that older Taurus' used to do that when they got wet. He's going to check at work and see if anything similar has come up!

It's working fine today though, no issues at all!
