Axle Holder for Engine Stand

Just thought I'd post this up... I picked up a newer 8.8 w/ disc & limited slip to go into my '68 Mustang. I have to do a fair bit of work to it to make it fit like grinding off all the current mounts, painting it, replacing seals, etc.

I'll likely have quite a few hours into it so I figured I may as well make it a little easier on myself and not have to do it on the floor of the garage.

It's not done yet, but here's what I've got so far. The ends of the angled pieces will be cleaned up and welded closed. I found a piece of 2 3/8" tubing that was the same size as what's needed to fit into the engine stand so it is completely removable and is able to swivel just like the engine mount.

I'll post up some better & clearer pics when it's done!

Thanks! I think it'll work well for what I need. I made the cutout part in the tube a little larger and I used Explorer 8.8 u-bolts so it should work for other larger axles as well.

Got the main sections welded tonight, but I still have to finish the ends of the angled tubes and cap them.

I just wanted to make sure everything would work the way I had planned before I finished it completely and it looks like it does! It works great, the engine stand itself flexes more than the holder I made does.

R U worried about the stand tipping sideways ?

That is the best idea I have seen in a long time, great tool with a lot of uses.

Thanks, and no I'm not worried... it is well balanced when the axle is centered.

Thanks! It'll definitely come in handy between this one and my father-in-law's Chevelle. Who knows what else down the road...

I'm planning on doing a T5 swap as well so I'll probably make another to hold a transmission sometime.

Thanks. I worked away at the axle on it tonight and this thing is awesome! I bet I got more than twice what I would have done if it was still on the floor on stands. It's nice to be able to work away, then just loosen the u-bolts and flip it over.

Thanks! It's working out well.

I've been cutting and grinding on the axle quite a bit over the past few days and the stand seems to be holding up well. Even makes a good storage stand when it's on it's side!

Not that I will be building one but maybe I could borrow it, seeing it is setup for an 8.8… NOT too far to go pick it up.

lol it did work out better than expected for turning it sideways. No clean up, that's just a black lid already there to catch the drips!

You could eat off that floor. Adam takes pride in his garage and it shows.
