My Bumper Build
My Bumper Build
Well i have been wanting a bumper for quite a while, i have had many other things come up and get in the way. This is going to be a slowish build, but i will document it as well as possible, and update as i go.
As of now i am building a Plate style bumper, similar to winch bumbers or somthing like Road Armour, Buckstop, Iron Bull, ect. but with less blingyness to it, beacuse i frankly dont like the look of them. just trying to paint the picture.
i plan on using 3/16" steel. i do not need the extra stregnth of 1/4" or the weight... i dont plan on knocking down trees or running down a moose.
i also do not plan on running a winch. i do plan on taking the lights i have behind my grill (6" piaa's) and adding them into the bumper, and possibly putting some other lights on the bumper and converting to hid. not sure at this point. i do plan on putting on some D rings for shackles as well.
here is my motivation, both were from C4x4 and have been seen before, these however ARE PHOTOSHOPED.
this has the winch removed and cleaned up slightly
this has the winch removed and the lip brought in a bit as well as cleaned up.
here is what i have done starting today, cardboard prelimanary. why mess up steel that you have to pay for.

as of now, im thinking of bringing up the lower line up an inch or inch and a half.
more updates soon. as i said it will probly take a while to get this done, but i will be working on the pre lim a bit

well, had a night to relax and do nothing so i kept working on the cardboard prelim. got it assembled, and done right were i want it. i DID cut the lower bit down 1 1/4" and its prefect. i also cut holes for my 6" piaa's and it looks goofy now, but i think with the lights in they will look great. any way test look, not so much fit will be tomorrow. i think i may really like it. we shall see.
on too pics
finished initial shape.

cut down and liceance plate on

holes for lights cut out

all done and painted for effect

all for now, if i get time i will get a pic on the pick up tomorrow.

Looks good, should be rugged…
I for one think the 6” Lights are too much but that is just me.
I think the lights take up too much of the bumper and are too close together to give a good light pattern. You can get just as much light out of 4” light and spaced out a little more.

i sliped the card board over my bumper today, it looks good and i got pics on my phone, i will have them up after a while.
i see were ur coming from with the lights, but i like it, plus why be cookie cutter, the lights i have are amazing in fog and heavy rain and snow. plus as i said it will probly get some more( gonna be over kill but man will i be bright!!!!!)
and andrew i drank the BL, i made nachos and it just seemed right. as for an eta, i dont know, i sent a few pics to my buddy and he kinda wants me to build one on his SD, even tho he is a millwright by trade... so who know. hopefully soon if time and life permits

Well im envious of your bud light drinkage. Ya idk man that's the way alot of millwrights are out at the plant I work at, but the millwrights here don't do any fabricating/ welding there more along the lines of pipe fitter/ boilermaker. Lazy son of a guns
here it is slipped over my original bumpr, basically done but i want to change one thing, the corner transitions. otherwise i like it a ton. im also going to add some metal around the bottom as skid or sorts....kinda... dont know how to word it...
any how
any how
Looks OK on the truck, nice work.
Looks good dan. Word of advise, don't dish out your measurements for the bumper. I personally wouldn't because I don't see why it should be easier for others when we have to take all the measurements and time and stuff and junk lol
i wouldnt give out my mesurements, i dont oppose any one making there own, but they can do the work... tho i dont mind giving advise
I'll remember that next time you ask for advice.
stuff like this is why there are a lot of unique mods that never get reproduced. if you build a sweet bumper and people like it you should be giving out the design! take it as a compliment!!!!
thats why im building my own, well that and i dont want to spend 700-900 bucks for somthing i can make. i dont have issues guiding people or helping them out at all. i want people to learn as they go some what. any fool can make sparks with a torch or welder and slap it all together, it become more of a personal thing when u hash out some of details rather than print out a schematic and do a paint by numbers bumper. not to say i wont give out some mesurements, or collaberate. i will for sure all you have to do is ask. but like i said, we need to see my final product first.
