Has anyone ever installed, or had installed, a sunroof in an 05 extended cab? I am considering it and wanted to hear from someone that has had it done.

Yes you can get it installed.

Some people say that removing the "structural brace" out of your roof is dangerous in case of a collission/rollover.

I believe it isn't, but IF it is, then you can *rebrace* the roof also. To me it seems to be a bar to help keep the angle of your roof by sagging in, which can be seen in a thread on RPS where a person with a "cloth sunroof" said that his roof flattened out w/o a brace or glass sunroof.

Dealer installed or you can get it done aftermarket. Anywhere from 300-800 bucks. Also, i believe one type of power roof does fit, but i cannot remember.

only thing i can think of is he means it just pops up rather than slides. but who knows

unless he really just wants a cutout with a piece of glass or whatever overtop to look up through. it'll give the cab a bigger feel and he can star gaze at night

 

There aren't many specific sunroofs. Most sunroofs are universal. Just find one where the dimensions fit how much you want to cut out of the roof.

 

The big thing is to find a good reliable shop to install the sunroof. I've seen (and lived through) some sunroof horror stories. I'd love to have one in the Ranger (my last three vehicles had sunroofs), but my last experiance has made me very very leery.

Just make sure the shop will stand by their work, and that they have excellent referances. A good shop will even refuse to install a sunroof, if they think it will comprimise the integrity of the roof.

 

Fixed as in doesn't pop up or slide back???? That would do to I guess.
