Ok, so I talked to an RCD tech last night about installing a 5.5" lift on my 07'. He couldn't tell me exactly whether or not it would work, since they have only fitted up to the 06'....even though there site still says 98'-02'.

Basically what I'm asking is- what, if anything has changed from the 06' that would stop me from doing this.

Also, he put me in contact with a dealer in W.VA that bought a buttload of RCD packages from them and was selling them for a "decent price" -$2100 whatcha guys think...and no I wont buy used, had to many headaches with taking used "stuff" off of my friends hands and having it break 1 month down the road..ie, cars, girlfriends, etc...lol

I would be running a 33" MT tire on 16X10 rim, dont wanna go much bigger...even though it seems thats the general consensus round here


I'll be stationed on Camp Lejeune (near Jacksonville NC) around Aug, and every base I've ever been at has always had a fully stocked garage that you can rent stalls for about 3 bucks a day, and about 5 bucks a day for tool rental...anyone interested in coming and hanging out on base for a weekend???

 

I don't think anything has changed since 06. You do know that you will have to change the front brakes to the smaller 02 and back ones.

 

The RCD tech said it would work with the 11.25" rotor or the 11.75" not sure which one he said, but it was one of those pretty sure....what size are on the 07's atm? what about the rear brakes??...smaller drums or upgrade to smaller discs?

 

rear drums are fine and I think you need to swap to the 11.25.

 

2007 Ranger has the 12" rotors

You need 2001-2002 Rotors and Pads.... those rotors are 11.25" and the pads are needed to match up to the rotor correctly.

other than that It should bolt up fine.

 

you dont need to change the pads. i have the 12" rotor pads and 11.25" rotors they work fine and the rotors i got at napa were like $42 each. when your current brake pads where then buy the 02 pads.and the rcd kit is pretty *****in man and the welding acan wait i still havent welded anything on my truck and it is doin great and i have done some pretty good wheelin with it. any questions about the rcd pm me.

 

thanks for the input! Any comments on price? Is 2100 a deal or is that about average? ALSO, almost forgot...front drive shaft...stock or do I need a replacement?

 

the kit comes with a spacer for the front driveshaft and loger bolts but the kit install it up grade when **** breaks

 

I would replace it from what i have heard the stock one will not last very long.

 

the stock one last just as long on the RCD lift like they do on the Superlift kit.

The Superlift Driveshaft is recommended.

yea mine aint on right now. took it off yesterday for paint and still drying ill put it back on in the mornin and try it out

 

i havent talked with anyone who actually ran the d/s spacer. im sure they are out there, but none are here. it may or may not lengthen the life of the stock d/s.

im runnin the SL replacement, FWIW

 

Jared rangerboy03lvl2 ran one until the driveshaft took a crap which was not long after the lift.

 

about how long does the stock usualy last with daily driving and slight off road?

i would say dont worry about the front driveshaft until it craps out.. the SL one is another $400

I was on ORR reading a recent thread on the RCD. I've known that the rotors needed to be dropped down in size after mid-MY 2003. But someone mentioned to the thread starter that when doing this (this is for someone with an 07 - same poster as here?) grab both 02 rotors and calipers from the JY. I was under the impression that the calipers stayed the same and that just the rotors needed swapping???? After all, when I was looking for new brake pads, the pads that fit 11.25" rotors from 02 and 03 vehicles also fit 04+ and the 12" rotors.

I are confused, especially since the truck is going up at end of the month. And while I'm here, Scott I might be calling you in the near future regarding the rear gears again. I didn't get the time to pop the gears in shortly after receiving them and figure since the truck will be apart at end of the month, why not hit up the gears. As I said, I may call or if you can just shoot me a pm. I need to clear my box though, at 79 messages.

 

actually there is a slight difference in the pads and calipers. nuthin that affects interchangin them, but it needs to be noted.
i have 11.25" rotors, 02 calipers, and 02 pads. when i fist assembled my kit(used) there were 04 calipers and pads attached to the spindles. not wantin to disconnect my lines, i jus tossed my calipers on the RCD spindles over the 04 pads.
there is a tension spring plate in the 02 caliper that is not in the 04 caliper and it caused minor interference and nasty squeelin. swapped back to 02 pads and all is well.

there are extra **** on the 04 pads that fit up with 04 calipers w/o the spring plate.
the 04 calipers i have here also have phenolic pistons. my 02 are steel.

*edit* before i confuse anyone, 04 calipers and pad worked fine with 11.25" rotors by themselves. it was interchange of 04 pads in 02 calipers that was an issue

 

The gussets that are to be welded into the shock/coilover mounts are there for a reason. The shock mounts are now supporting the full weight of the truck via the coilovers, and they are NOT designed to hold up to such forces. Driving for an extended period of time without them could be very dangerous to you, your truck and anyone around you. PLEASE take the time to weld them in.

As far as the rotors, that question has been beaten to death. The RCD kit will fit for you. As far as a price, $2100 is a pretty reasonable deal. Is that shipped to your door? Or do they want shipping charges on top of that? I'd say go for it if you've got the cash.

Give the driveshaft spacer a shot and see how it works for you. I ran my Superlift for a few k and never had any trouble with my front driveshaft to warrant spending $400 on a new one. If it breaks, replace it. But if it ain't broke, don't fix it (or so the saying goes). Good luck!
