Ford Edge?

My mother has been wanting a new-to-her car, an SUV preferably although open to options.

A vehicle that's been catching her eye is the Ford Edge SUV, not to be confused with and Edge trim level Ranger.

So, I ask, what do you guys think of the Edge? Any major problems to be heard of, just so-so or what?

The last vehicle my grandmother has purchased was an Edge. I believe it's a 2014. They're really nice. The ride is very smooth and there is a good bit of space for passengers and cargo. Lots of features, but she got the top trim level so there better be a lot of features lol.

Nice. She'll be happy to hear that.

I have a cousin who has been pretty much a Chevy man all his life. He bought an Edge because his wife works for a Ford dealer and could get a good deal on the Edge. He absolutely loves the Edge.

My mom used to have an 07 edge. It was a nice car- tons of interior room. Gas mileage wasn't all that great, but it is a "crossover". It also had a hell of a blind spot, but I don't know if the newer generations have the same issue. Over all I think she was happy with it. Definitely didn't scare her away from Ford or anything (she traded it in on a focus).

A friend of mine has a 2011 Edge and loves it. Lots of toys and features, very comfortable. The only niggling little point that I have is that if you sit in the center of the back seat, you're sitting on seat belts with both sides of your butt, and I'm not a huge guy with a huge butt!

When my parents were looking for a cross over/SUV they test drove one and I remember them saying they liked the room inside but they hated how it handled and my dad said it was kind of like a tank, just not much visibility. They ended up going with an Escape. We still have it and I'll tell you what...that things a brute. We've gone off roading in it during fishing trips, carries all our stuff, pretty good visibility, good power, and good suspension.

Sounds like she may have two options as far as SUVs go. Whatever she ends up getting will ultimately be a grocery hauler 99 percent of the time, and the other 1% is our vehicle for road trips. Luggage and whatnot.

Thank you for all of your input.

The edge has odd aerodynamics. Roll down one rear window while driving and you will hear an odd air displacement.

My wife has an 08 edge. 100k on it so far and still running strong. Plenty of room, and about 22mpg highway. And tops out at 115mph.

I've already got an idea. The one time I see where mine tops out at, it would be my luck......

That's why you gotta do it at night, on a bridge on the interstate.

I figured there was a trick to it. If I'd ever do that, it would be with a Hellcat though. As much of a Ford guy as I am, those things look like a good time on wheels. Too bad that motor wouldn't fit in our Rangers.

I think that is true of many modern cars. I think there was a statement in the owners manual of my 2011 Fusion warning not to do that.

Same goes for the 2003 Rendezvous. You'll get buffeted by air if you only have one window cracked/down. Gotta have two, any two, windows cracked or down, or any combination.

Speaking of a good time on wheels, my mom had a CTS-V coupe for awhile. That car was the epitome of a good time. The first time she let me drive it, I got it up to 170. Only slowed down because I was getting to the end of the interstate bridge. It was a hell of a girl magnet too

Then grandkids came along, and I tried to convince her to trade it straight up for my Fusion, but she wanted an SUV lol.

I've always liked how those look. Didn't know they could go that fast though, lol.

They're crazy fast. The governor on them is set at 194 IIRC. You can stomp the pedal at 110 and still get thrown to the back seat.
