questions about the new f150 v8 options

so i may be in the market for a new f150 xlt 4x4 but have a few questions on the v8s. i went to the lot and noticed ALLLLLL of the f150s were either 5.0 or the ecoboost motor. where in the hell are the 6.2s? are they only in certain models or what? i tried to build an fx4 and noticed 5.0 was the only option unless it was a bug in the thing. but what did the 5.0 and 6.2 replace? my guess is 5.4-6.2 and 4.6-5.0. but between the two, which one is best to get? it seems like the 5.0 is coming back as the standard engine like it used to be back in the day in the f150s. thoughts and comments appreciated thanks!

Ps. might just turn the other way and go with a 5.4 f250 of some year. thoughts on this?

I think the 5.0 is now the standard engine like the 5.4 was and the 6.2 is for those that want extra oomph. If I remember right the 6.2 is only available in the Platinum, Raptor, Harley Davidson and the Lariats. To get the 6.2 in a FX4 like configuration you have to go to the Raptor

I wouldn't go with a 5.4 250, things are slow.

Trent is right.

Get the 5.0. They are very, very nice. I much prefer the 5.0 over the 5.4. They are a lot faster than the 5.4's too.

two words, eco boost! with an option like that i wouldnt even consider either V-8 they have out now. not saying they arent good powerful motors but that EB blows them away with low end TQ. people ive talked to that own them describe them as having diesel like power and they are pulling pretty impressive MPG numbers too. that 5.0 sounds pretty damn mean with a nice exhaust on it though.

I wish I could have tried an ecoboost but the 5.0 was damn quick. Nice and throaty to, sounded almost as deep as my dads 5.4.

Fix it!
I've replaced everything up front on my F150 except the driver's side hub/bearing unit.

What kind of MPG numbers are these ppl getting?

I see them advertised in Canada at 31MPG, I call bull on that, and am interested in real world numbers.

I agree with Patrick. Get the eco boost! If I wasn't trying to get all my debt paid off I would have one in my driveway right now.

If I had the money to spend I would look very closely at a new supercrew, 6.5' bed fx4 with the ecoboost as well...

It seems like I remember seeing a few reports of new owners getting 18-20mpg highway (US) in new 4x4 F150s with the ecoboost. But it's been a while since I looked and those were brand spankin new trucks as well. Keep in mind, it's still a truck and I think the ecoboost's selling point isn't all in the mileage, but mostly in the torque curve, while still getting decent mileage. I would suspect that towing mileage would still suck, but for a person who daily drives the truck and tows occasionally it would probably be hard to beat.

18-20 highway isn't impressive at all, I would expect at least that from any model. My truck did that stock

Shoot my F250 averaged almost 21 mpg on the 2700 miles to California and back.

I think the ecoboost is meant to be a replacement for the 'planned' diesel engine they were supposed to have in the F150s by 2011.

I concur, that is what I was hinting at with the torque curve. The idiots in our government have been stomping on diesel so this is likely their replacement. That is probably why you hear (at least I do) "diesel like performance" a lot when people talk about it. Sure I would MUCH rather have a small diesel in it, but not with all of the expensive emissions crap that comes with them now. I'm still itching to remove the DPF and EGR stuff from the VW and install bigger injectors and a full turbo back....
