are you speaking of an 03 6.0 turbo? i think i may have pulled a bone head moment and assumed you put on a 03 7.3 turbo...

That 03 turbo is probably the most well known sound out there as far as ford diesels go. Followed closely by the injector noise of a 7.3. Gotta love ford for having the most distinctive sounds out there

So far my boss who is the previous owner of the truck, my Dad, and my wife said they don't like the sound. A buddy of mine that also has a 6.0l said it sounds sweet. I like it though lol, very distinctive indeed.

Haha I've heard the sounds like a jet thing a few times already. People in parking lots turn their heads real quick when they hear that whistle lol.

It screams like crazy. I don't think I'll be using my high idle for warmup this winter or my neighbors will really, really hate me.

Sounds pretty schweeet! Not sure I could handle that running with a trailer behind for a long trip, but the whistle isn't nearly as loud inside from the few 6.0's I've rode in.

Were the sticking turbo veins much of an issue on 03' turbos?

Should have done a compound setup while you had yours hand dirty, come on man!

I can't hear the exhaust at all at highway speeds, but that may change if I were pulling a trailer. The whistle is definitely audible inside, but really only under acceleration and under 10psi of boost.

All the 6.0s suffer from vanes sticking in the turbos, but mostly in the trucks that don't reach full boost very often. This turbo was cleaned before being installed and I also installed a new VGT solenoid. Shouldn't have to worry about vanes sticking for a long time to come.

I have the Edge Insight to monitor my temp deltas so I know the condition of the oil cooler. I also have 4 gallons of CAT EC-1 approved ELC coolant to put in. As soon as the oil cooler needs replacing I will be deleting the egr cooler as well.

Hope if it the cooler goes it doesnt starve the turbo and injectors with oil, that would end badly! Still supprised they never recalled that stuff. They shelled out so much money in head gaskets, turbos, oil coolers and egr systems.

The oil side of the cooler is fine, it's the coolant side that has trouble. No one has trouble with the injectors or turbos being starved of oil, just the EGR cooler being starved of coolant which causes it to rupture and allow coolant to flow into the cylinders, which blows the headgaskets.

As to why they never recalled it, my guess is they don't have a good reliable fix for the problem. It's probably cheaper for them to fix the trucks that show up for service. Now with he last of the 6.0s warranties running out they'll just wipe their hands clean of it.

That is one of fords biggest problems when they jumped from the 7.3. Ford made the truck work with the 7.3 when they went with it. When the 6.0 came along they modded the motor to fit the truck. If you look at Internationals 6.0s they didnt have even a third of the issues. Same with the 6.4, Ford changed things on the motor to make it work in the truck and it sacrificed reliability

Not true at least when it comes to the 6.0. We have one in a school bus where i work and we have had every issue imaginable with it same goes for every bus garage close by. i have heard that if they were worked hard they seem to last longer though.

I have heard to run the snot out of a diesel when you drive it.

Not trying to vary too far off of topic, but does this apply to all Turbo diesels?

well what kind of buses are these.. are they buses with ford front ends that ford probably sold to convert to buses? kanuk is talking about the international 6.0s that international sold themselves, not to ford. and from what ive read and heard, kanuk is right the actual interanational motors were a lot more reliable then the ford trucks were. also.

you dont have to run the snot out of it every time you drive it, and it depends what you mean by run the snot of it, the older diesels, it doesnt seem to matter either way, its mostly noticeable in the 6.0s and such. a 6.0 thats a grocery getter is more likely to have problems then a 6.0 thats hooked to a trailer every day.
