**Would this shock be worth it????

I was swapping out the shocks on my mom's '97 Explorer (see thread in Snapshots: Vehicles - https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...950#post531950) and i noticed this shock on the rear end.......i was wondering if t would be something that would benefit my rear end ride and handling a bit......i have the mounting holes on the diff of my 8.8, i would just have to make a mount for the frame which i dont see as being hard....

here is a pic of the shock that i am talking about...

ok, your ranger has a forward facing and rear facing shock

the explorer has 2 rear facing shocks

thats more like a stabilizer shock, will not benifit anything to a ranger unless you swap to 2 rear facing shocks

awwwww.....i see......

i knew they both had different shock setups, but i didn't know if it was there to take away the effect of lateral travel in the axle.........

If that setup is anything like the Mustang 8.8 then these "quad shocks" control axle wind up on launch and help you hook up better, they don't really affect ride quality, unless your backend kicks out hard while your accelerating hard.

wouldn't it decrease axle wrap a bit since it is attached to the front of the carrier.....since the front rocks backwards when the axle wraps.....

wonder what would happen if you remove the shock and put in a solid bar....

^^^ if i can find an Exploder with that on it in the junk yard, i will have to grab it and maybe try it out.....since it was not installed on all Explorers i will have to see if they have one with it on it...never know, i may pull out a full Explorer 8.8 with the disc and swap it in...
