‘02 Ranger Coolant Leak from Heater Valve

Hello all! First post here because I can’t seem to find an answer through the search engine. There is coolant leaking at the hose connection to my heater bypass valve. The other day while sitting at a light white smoke started coming out from under my hood. From further inspection it looked like coolant burning off the engine form a small squirt of antifreeze from the hose connection. It doesn’t seem to leak while the truck is sitting overnight, only when the engine is running. I want to make sure I’m replacing the right component and not throwing money in the wrong direction. I will post a photo here to show what I’m seeing. So essentially my question is if there’s a leak at the connection how can I tell if it’s the valve that needs replacing, or the hose? My whip only has 80k miles so I wouldn’t think the hose could have already gotten cracks or pinholes. Anyways, any insight would be helpful and very much appreciated.

Looks like a bad clamp, or the clamp created a hole. Heater bypass valves usually fail where they are actuated. I would trim the hose some and use a quality screw type clamp before buying the valve if it weren't an obvious leak.

Grumpa thank you! I’ll give it a shot tomorrow and check the hose when replacing the clamp. Report back tomorrow

Luckily for you, a new heater bypass valve is only about $30 if the hose isn't the issue.

For what it's worth, mileage means nothing. I've replaced all of my heater hoses at this point because they leaked at the plastic t-fittings. The hoses aren't the problem, it's the plastic.

Update: went to remove the clamp where leak was occurring and the port easily broke off. Weak plastic. Replacing the whole valve itself. Had in stock at Autozone for $18

Well looks like you found the problem. I myself have never bought a new one.. just omitted them. I know what the intention was, but never really noticed any difference.
