01 ranger plugged cats
01 ranger plugged cats
So my edge 2001 3.0 manual 4x2, thru a 0300 code then 304,305,306
shop says plugged cats. Do I have to call ford to get them all. I bought the truck in cal but I’m in Oregon. -small town . I want to replace the cats but wondering if there’s a cheaper aftermarket and who and what parts. The shop isn’t too keen on working with this truck I’m thinking, as it’s been there now for 3 weeks!
so I’m gonna find them for them. Should I replace the whole system with aftermarket or is there any? Thanks

If you are not going to register it in Calif again then you can use 3rd party Cats
If its going to have to pass Calif smog then it has to have CARB compliant Cats
Exhaust or mechanic shops can get a $25,000 fine for not replacing Cats, but the quality of the Cats they replace the old ones with are not an issue as long as they are new
Replace them all, it will be a big bite but if one has failed then others will not be far behind

Thanks for responding all. I’m not going to be selling this vehicle in California though who knows maybe drive there once in a great while. I just want it to run right. I have noticed a lot of two up front units vs the three it came with. Seen a few on ebss as y cheaper there than napa. Is there a certain rank ie walker that would be best? Probably should get a new muffler while I’m at it. And then of course there’s the o2 sensors I believe 3 of them.
Walker exhaust parts have had a good reputation over the years
O2 sensors are THE ONLY sensors that wear out, 12 years or 100k miles, whichever comes first, and they need to be replaced
Calif Smog laws are just for registering vehicles to get Calif plates, and then getting the inspections every 2 years
Driving in Calif with out of state plates is fine for a limited time, need to have that out of state Licence that matches the out of state registration of vehicle, lol
