The 04 Horn is so.. wussy!

So the other day I was in LA, and this lady cut me off. Sans some cuss words, i honked at her. Um.. then i felt really pathetic. The 04+ horns sound so high pitched!!!

I'd rather have a 01-03 horn. Here's my question. Are the horns plug and play? Are there any upgrades (from the 01-03 horns) that can produce a deeper/louder sound?

I don't want an air horn, or anything that's obnoxious. Just, nothing wussy.. (freakin A!)

Thanks all.

I will second that they aren't very loud. Maybe 80- 85 db. Thanks for the link. I recently bought a set for $12 , found out how wimpy they were , went back to buy another set so I could add an extra horn and boost the power to all three, and they raised the price to about $22. I didn't want to throw that much money away if I blew the cheap horns up.

to the 04/05 guys, have you compared it to the 01-03's? It's definitely higher pitched than their's..

You may have shorted out your horn somehow. I know my horn on the 01 had seen better days. It'd been shorted out by water, clogged with mud, and just about anything else you could imagine. It was less intimidating than a little pink VW beetle with 2 flat tires and a smoking engine. Your horn may be damaged by the elements.

If I am not mistaken the 01-03s have two horns where the 04+ have one horn thats why they sound like crap. I remember looking on my dads 03 when he had it and there were two horns, it sounds so much better then mine.

So that settles it, there is only one horn on the 04+ so now the question is can we add another one and is the wiring there?

When I bought my truck my horn sounded pretty high and wimpy. It was because one of them was blown, I took it back to the dealership and they replaced both horns under the factory warrenty. You may be able to go to a junk yard and find the wiring and connect/ splice it. I don't know, i am not a wiring expert.

Not to be a dick but the 04+ only has one horn from the factory, that means only one to replace.

couldnt you just splice into the single horn wire and just mount another horn? I have the single horn as well and it is rather crappy sounding, so i bought one of those "big rig sounding" horns from autozone and it sounds pretty much the same, just a little louder (evidently it is the same brand as the OEM horn, odd..) So I'm just going to try splicing into the single horn wire and have them both running.

I'll will try to make this a little clearer. You may be able to go to a junk yard and find the wiring and another horn from a ranger and wire them together or you can get the whole horn set up from an '01-'03 wiring and both horns. and replace you single horn. Like I said above I am no wiring expert so I do not know if this is doable but this is what I was thinking.
Is that a little better?

That should work, just have to watch and make sure it does not pull too much. It shouldnt but the chance is there to pop a fuse.

Hella makes replacement electric horns. If I recall, they're around 135 db. I'm sure a lot of places carry them, but I don't recall who right now... pressed for time so I can't do a search.

On a side note, I've lost a horn in my '97 and in my '02. Seems that if the horn doesn't get used, it tends to crap-out. Since I rarely use the horn and just fly the Number 1 in silent anger, well that explains it...
