Superchips Flashpaq vs Bama's Xcal?

Hey guys im comparing these two tuners and need some input.

First off price...

Dougs Xcal to my door will be $510cdn

The superchips unit is on sale for $399cdn right now

I have looked into the Bama unit for a while... it has custom tunes compared to canned tunes on the flashpaq... but doug says this:

Base tunes, or Canned tunes as they are referred to online, are the base tunes from the company that produces the tuner. They are good for minor bolt-ons and to get you started but eventually you're going to do other modifications that require custom tuning
Well my truck isnt going any further than its current K&N and an exhaust this summer....

so should i just get the superchips unit???

Anyone have it?

I wanna order one of the two right away... also my truck is a 5speed.... and i hear alot of the guys say bama is best because of the improvements he makes with how the auto tranny shifts using his product....

so i wont be benefiting from that.....

LMK

Custom tunes are so much better than canned tunes, if your going to spend that much on a tuner I would go all the way.

Always been curious, what does a tuner do? Change your computer for tire sizes and gears or something?

yeah adjusts that so your speedo reads correctly, if you're auto, it stiffens your shifts and adjusts the shift points. i believe it does some tweaking to the a/f mixture iirc

If you go back 30 years ago, guys would adjust timing on the distributor, and adjust fuel via regulators and carb jetting. The X3 does the same thing, only its computerized and it does other things like tranny firmness, odomater corrections, etc.

I have the superchips programmer. But it was kind of a spur of the moment thing, got it for a good deal locally and bought it knowing i was going to be doing a few other bolt on mods and wanted to make the most of them. If i had had done more research I may have considered the bama tuner but I am happy with the results from my superchips. An obvious increase in power and the shift points are much better, as well as my speedo is correct again after bigger tires. But I also have nothing to compare it to so cant really say which one is better. But you can go on the flashpaq forum on their website and there is a guy who works with them and he will make a custom tune for you that you can download into your programmer. You just tell him your engine and what mods you have done to it and he will email you an updated program for your setup.
