1983 ford ranger engine swap

i have a 1983 ford ranger 2.3l and my motor recently went out. i spun a bearing and it messed up my crankshaft. i was wondering what an easy and cheap motor swap would be for my truck.

Pretty much only another 2.3l will work if easy and cheap is a parameter.

Anything else will require another transmission, engine bay wiring and computer for different size engine, and of course the engine.

2.0l/2.3l/2.5l Lima engines have a unique transmission bolt pattern.

If you could find a donor Ranger 4x4 that was rolled or rusted out, and can get it cheap you can do the full swap, engine/trans, wiring and computer

Good read here on your Lima 2.3l engine: The Ford Ranger 4-Cylinder Lima Motors - The Ranger Station

Usually after a spun main bearing the crank can be turned and an over-sized bearing can be used, while this is not the best thing to do it is often the least expensive.

Next would be a used 2.3l Lima

good info from RON

but a ranger that old and paid off , i personally would do a complete 5.0 / A4OD driveline swap

but that would depend on how sound the body / suspension and frame are
