1988 ranger 2.0 carb. hard to start in winter

Hello I have a 1988 ford ranger with 2.0 engine and it is carburated. I having problems with it starting when the weather is cold. I put a new battery in it and check the alternator output voltage at 14.5+volts anybody have this type of problem?? Help....

Is the choke sticking? Take the air cleaner cover off and press down on the choke plate with your finger and have someone try to start the truck. If it starts easier you have found your problem.

Not always true. Depends on their state of tune. My old 86 Ranger 2.0 started in the cold everytime, and quickly. Never failed me once, even down to below zero degrees.


I'd do what the previous member suggested. Check that choke.
