Hi everyone, brand new member. I have owned a 91 Ranger Supercab (3.0L V6) since new. I have a Dealer installed A/C system which has worked flawlessly since new. Never added refrigerant or serviced in any way. The truck has 109K on it and has spent it's entire life in Northern NJ. This past weekend the High Pressure Discharge line/hose from the compressor to the condenser burst while at idle, releasing the refrigerant and oil all over the side of my battery. The line burst,(the underneath side of rubber hose) about 3 inches from the condenser. Here are my questions.

Q1) what makes this line burst at that point? Age, problem in another component like blocked orifice tube or faulty high pressure switch? Is this normal?

Q2) I have checked online and I'm not locating a replacement discharge line for this model, retail on the hose is about $300, and is out of stock at websites. Should I write this one off or is there hope for my beloved Ranger(actually my wife's and she is in love with this truck!) Looks like the dryer is cheap and available. I don't know about R-12 availability either.

More Information for MOTORCRAFT YF1608 if that is the part that burst, the outlet tube you can pick it up from rockauto for like 3 dollars but it sounds like your issue is bigger and may require more that that. I would check junkyards or maybe a hose off a newer model if they have the same connectors on the ends.. may not be same length but should work. As for the charging of the system plan on spending a lot of $ for a shop to do it if you cant yourself because your looking at a complete oil change in the ac system if some has leaked out and at this point you might as well evacuate the system with a vacuum pump and put in a newer oil that is compatible with R134a and do a retrofit because it is illegal to make R12 these days. If you can't do any of this yourself a shop will charge you an arm and a leg so you might want to cut your losses and roll that window down for some nice cool air in the future.

 

Hi, and thanks for the reply. So that is not the correct part, Rock was my first search. I believe I need YF1962 which I also believe is a combination hose(suction/discharge) one going to the condenser and the other to the dryer. I do have a vacuum pump and the gauges for A/C system, so I can do a lot of the work myself. I might just add the new fittings and correct oil for the 134a retrofit, but I am concerned about why the hose blew in the first place, I've just never seen it before. I would hate to do all the work(new dryer/accumulator) with a hose from a junk yard, but I might have to do just that. The hoses are engine specific and different on a factory vs. dealer installed unit. That is what makes this part so hard to find. Thanks again for the advice and your time researching the part!
