1997 Ranger without A/C

I found a Ranger online that is a 1997 XLT Ranger but doesn't have AC. The guy that has it is not the original owner. He bought it 4-5 years back and the dealer told him that about 25% of the Ranger's that year didn't have AC. I find that hard to believe. Also, the guy says all of the controls are there for an AC, but the stuff under the hood (drier, condenser, compressor, etc). I am thinking it is possible it was wrecked and someone just didn't put the AC stuff back in and the evaporator and internal controls are all still there. How likely is it that it really didn't come with AC and how much do you think it would cost to put AC on the truck if the stuff inside the cab was all there? I have worked on Ranger ACs in the past so I would be doing the work. Thanks.

Does yours have the controls for the AC inside?

Neither did mine. No A/C settings on my panel. From what I've seen, there are two distinct HVAC panels for Rangers in this timeframe. Those with AC controls, and those without.

I have an 01 without AC and theres no settings or controls for A/C in it. sounds like you have a truck that had A/C and it was removed

BTW. A/C is still an option on the Ranger, as well as the F150. I looked at an 07 F150 XL a few weeks ago that did'nt have A/C

it could be you have to get a different belt or make a bracket with a pulley.

it is possible that something went wrong with the original HVAC control panel inside the truck and they just got whatever they could from a junkyard and it just happened to be one with the AC controls on it...
