1999 ranger 2.5
Hi I need help I have a 1999 ranger 2.5 liter automatic I bought a used engine salavage yard installed sat got it started running it won't rev over 2200 rpm I put new plugs and wires checked fuel pressure it's at 53 psi at idle changed cam sensor idles good won't rev in n or p or driving 2200 and it just flutters timing is perfect changed both coil packs checked wiring 3 times it's correct any suggestions thank you
2,200 is to low to be REV Limiter issue.
Best guess and it is a guess is Fuel filter or clogged exhaust.
Fuel pressure at 53psi is a bit low, 65psi is expected, but pressure also isn't Flow, you can have high pressure but low flow, i.e. limited fuel passing thru filter, so as fuel demand goes up you "run out of gas" at the fuel rail.
For new air/fuel mixture to come in exhaust must go out, if exhaust flow is partially blocked you basically have a REV limiter set as the exhaust pressure from blockage builds up to equal intake pressure, so new air/fuel can't be pulled in to cylinder.
Also check the throttle linkage, does gas pedal open throttle plate all the way?
And does new TPS(throttle position sensor) read above 4.6volts when wide open?
