Hello all I’m new to this Ranger thing, so I own a 94 2.3 with a 5 speed. The motor is getting tired it’s got 300,000 miles on it. I am curious to see what I can do to get some more power out of it? I’m willing to have it rebuilt but what I need to do in order to get a little bit more out of it? Thanks in advance. Who is a good Company to get parts from?
Welcome to the forum
You have a 2.3l SOHC Lima engine, also called the Pinto engine because it was first used in a 1974 Pinto
So this is very old engine technology, designed in 1972/3 for use from 1974 to 2001
A very reliable engine but low power to weight ratio, its a heavy engine, lol
The Fox body Mustangs used the same 2.3l Lima engines from 1978 to 1993, so those forums are a good source for performance upgrades
Ford did make Turbo 2.3l Limas, read here: https://therangerstation.com/tech_library/Turbos.shtml
Some bolt on stuff here: https://www.route66hotrodhigh.com/2300.html
If you are thinking of a turbo but price starts to get a bit high then you may want to give the 302/5.0l V8 swap a look, "there is NO replacement for displacement", lol
