200,000km: Is it time to start thinking about upgrading??

Hey guys my '98 is just about at 200,000km and Im at the point of where Im debating putting a couple thousand into some mods to make her how I want her to be, ie: regearing, bigger tires, programmer, all the extras etc.

But Im starting to wonder if at 200'000k if she's getting close to the end of her life at this point and if it's really worth it. Should I be thinking about selling at this point while I can still probably get something decent for the truck and invest that money into a newer model??

Right now I still love my truck and have no major problems with it. She looks great and doesnt burn a drop of oil and has never left me stranded. Although I have thought about getting a 4.0 with a/c, but are these reasons enough to sell my baby?

How many KM's do these 3.0 engines usually get before they kick the bucket? Id like to get some opinions of what you guys would do in my position???

124,274 miles isn't that much. you still have a ways to go before your engine dies. There are a lot of people with a lot more miles than that.

personally you have a long way to go before worring about it dieing.. IF it was my truck i would go threw every part with a fine tooth and comb and see if anything needs to be replaced like balljoints, tie rods, axle seals, brakes, u-joints, spark plugs... along those lines..

I just did over $1800 in repairs to mine it runs now like it brand new being 90% of the stuff has been replaced now...

its says you have 5-speed with 3" body lift and 32's.. well i personally would regear the truck to 4.10 if it wasnt already. get some 15x10 or 15x8 some 33x12.5x15 tires.. you look to have argent bumpers look for some newer style chrome bumper valance and rear bumper. maybe upgrade the interior with a console and some power explorer seats. wheel and wax the paint.. and you will fell like you have a brand new truck again..

why would you want to sell your truck for another Gen 4...

Justins truck is just like yours 3.0L 5-speed 4x4 same lift set up as mine... its a XL that started with grey bumpers and vynal floor... its not like that anymore lol...

200,000km is nothing . . . my 94' which has had a very hard life, driven all year (until the last 8 months) has 340,000kms (210,000m+) and has plenty of life left. Only major "failure" was the 7.5" diff that I bought knowing was a time-bomb, 2 years later it blew, I put an 8.8" in and has been a DD until May last year.

You have PLENTY of road life left, if you maintain it correctly.

Wow so far a unanimous NO not to sell. I expected the opposite...Its weird to hear that after 124,000 miles or 200,00k(im canadian) that shes just gettin broken in LOL.

My dad always used to warn me when we looked at buying used cars when I was in my teens that after 200,000k your buying a sinking ship...He said thats why most cars at the auction were usually in the 200k or more range cuz they are ready to sh*t the bed...

Thanks for the opinions guys and would like to hear more...

but buying used w/over 124,000 miles is different b/c you dont' know what the previous owner(s) did to it. At least you know what you did with/to yours.

Cars and trucks are built to higher standards and demands now-a-days compared to your parent's.

Ohh and your 3.0L will likely outlast your truck, if the CPS holds up. My 94' 3.0L & original auto have only had routine maintenance and run as nice as the 04' 3.0L we had.

Like i just posted above. at that milage I would go threw the whole truck and look for anything wrong.. i know there will be with out a doubt before the "modding" begins....

Check out this site, all Canadian located and CAD prices, I have only ordered a few things but I like them:

http://2koolperformance.ca/tire_werx/index.htm#offroad

You can back track through the site to buy anything, literally, dirt bike equip, snow-X, lifts, drop kits . . . good stuff.

I need some help understanding this...

I have it narrowed down between the American Racing baja series and Mickey Thompson Classic ll's...

Lets say I go with the AM ones from here http://www.carmodifier.ca/default.as...20&wheelID=378 Now how do I know which 15x8 5 bolt patterns to chose from? 5x120, 5x4.5", 5x5" or 5.5"? And what do these offset numbers mean? -19 or 20?

Can someone please help me understand these differences so I get the right wheels...

Please and thank you...

The offset number are how far the wheel will stick out, or truck in. I have stock wheels on my truck so I can't help you with the offset. And Rangers are 5x4.5".

Ok so -19 the tire will be in more and 20 it will stick out more? How much more does that mean? 1"? And what looks better, what do most guys go with?

I have the 15x10 mickey thompson wheels. I couldn't tell you the backspasing but I like it. The stick out about 3/4 of an inch. I love the wheels. As for tires I have the baja mtz's and love them too.
