This is my first post im hoping to get some help! has any one towed a r-pod with a 3.0l v6 ranger. i currently have a 1,800 pound pop up i pull and i hardly know its pulling it. The r-pod im looking at is 2,890 dry weight i also have trailer breaks already on my ranger. i rebuilt the engine about 2 years ago. new bearings, seals, valve seats, ect..... thanks for the help
Owners manual for the 2001 with 3.0 and auto trans lists trailer weight rating as around 3600 lbs and slightly more, depending on model of cab, bed length and gear ratio.
Your R-Pod may have dry weight of 2890, but that weight is usually taken from bare rig...add ac, battery, filled propane tanks, spare tire/rim. Add water, food, clothing, "stuff" and you'll probably be around 3600-3800 lbs.
You won't be in a rocket breaking speed limits, but it's do-able.
It just me and my wife lol I maybe pace 20 pounds of stuff when we go 😅 I have a single cab, 2wd 3.73 rear end with a 5 speed (rockauto HD cluch kit) all in all my 3.0l runs just as good or better then new from the factory. I don't plan to travel with and water in the tanks it also only has 1 25 pound propane tank.
With a manual tranny everything changes on the down side. 2001 with standard cab, 3.0, manual is only rated to tow around 2600 lbs. Even with a brake set up and a good hitch you could probably up it a bit but anyway you look at it, an R-Pod with just the basics will be way over tow rating.
Remember, your pop up has almost no "frontal" resistance, while an R-Pod will be like towing a shoebox.
Just be prudent and if in doubt, get your truck/trailer weighed, loaded the way you would travel. Any truckstop with a weigh station can weigh it for round 10 bucks. You may be surprised what your total combined weight really is.
Check your owners manual, pages 147-152. Complete breakdown for towing.
