It seems I need to replace the differential on my 2002 ford ranger as it’s making strange sounds & my mechanic says not to do a long trip with it.
he also thinks it’s the only year that they used this type in any ranger & it’s very difficult to find.
so far we haven’t had any luck…
does anybody know anything about this type of differential, & or where one might be available?
I’m still driving it, but not sure how much longer I can. It’s still in great shape otherwise, and only has 300,000 kms

Mechanic is mistaken on what differentials are used in Rangers, they are very common in each year
1993 to 2011 used the same rear differentials, 7.5" or 8.8" but interchangeable when swapping the whole axle, Mazda B-series as well used the same
Front 4x4 differentials are 1998-2011 to match your 2002

Need to match Ratios for 4x4s, but 2WD is drivers choice, and would depend on what YOU want, MPG or towing power

 

So if I don’t care if I retain the 4x4, can I change differential with a 2008 ranger?( it’s not a 4x4).
