2002 Ranger bed wiring issue
2002 Ranger bed wiring issue
Alright hopefully one of knows the answer to this problem. I'm taking the bed off the truck so I can grind and POR/paint the frame and I'm running into a problem, after taking off the drivers side tail light the wiring harness that the tail light bulbs connect to goes in two directions, up and down. The wires going up run to fuses for something and just hang in the bed close to the tailgate, the other runs under the bed in front of the bumper. I can't remove the bed or the fiberglass sides of the bed until I figure out where this disconnects at, does anyone know?
The wiring going up was added for canopies 3rd brake light most likely or 12volt power for the light in the canopy
One running down should go to license plate bulbs, brown wire usually

A friend just came by and helped me pull the bed off and he said the same thing, for a camper shell. So him and I were talking and he thinks I can just cut those wires and not have it affect the tail lights. I'm going to be getting a new bed but I could end up with one that is older in which case I'll need my wiring harness, do you think I can cut the extra wires and be alright?
Yes, you can always cut wires and then splice them back together as needed
Just tape or cap the ends so they can't short out if they are not spliced back in
Yes, 1999 was last year of separate turn and brake bulbs on the tail lights
In 2000 turn and brake shared 1 bulb on each side so different wiring
