Edit: I think i figured it out. Looks like it has the powerdome hood but an XLT grille? Still curious as what to look for, like would it have skid plates or is that just level 2?
Hey everyone, I'm gonna be looking at a 2003 Ranger. After selling my 2006 regular cab for a f150, then selling the f150 for an Escape, I miss being in a Ranger/truck. Anyways, it has the fx4 badge on the bed, but it doesn't have a honeycomb grille. How could I identify if this is a true fx4? I've done some reading but pretty much everything is concerning the level 2. Here's the dealer pictures. Thanks

Here's my 06 I had, it was only a 2wd 4cyl lol. The lift and new shocks made it ride like a pile of bricks.

Well that was a pain in the *** to post haha. Hopefully someone can help! Thanks in advance.

Wtf? Photobucket wants $400 a year for hosting pictures on websites?? Free hosting is why many people have used it for years... Well let's try something else then.
Sorry for the double post!

From my research when I was looking for an FX4 Level II is that the FX4 Off Road had 2 skid plates, one for the transfer case and the other for the fuel tank. It also has 4:10 gears and a limited slip rear end. Other than looking for the skid plates I don't think their is any easy way to tell. The grille could have easily been changed out at some point. I'd say if it has the skid plates it's probably is an FX4 Off Road. Also the FX4 Off Road is essentially the 98-02 Off Road. The only difference being that in 02 Ford started using the 8.8 inch axle and limited slip differential.
Well I got there after hours and it was almost dark but took a quick look. It has silver face gauges and skid plates on the t case and fuel tank. I can tell it's been in an accident, the passenger fender color is slightly off and flaking and under the headlight is flaking. I'd say it is an fx4. It looks pretty good though, gonna check it out. They're asking $4200 for it
Yes it's an FX4, I forgot about the silver face gauges. $4200 doesn't sound like too bad of a price. Might even be able to talk them down a bit from the paint issues. Good luck!
