Going to let my 2004 Ranger Edge 3.0 Automatic super cab go, trying to see what the value is for a not running truck with a good body and no rust under carriage (so cal truck). 200K miles.
Top end of engine taken apart, no missing parts. Registration has been on non-op. Truck should be a good candidate for an engine swap because the truck is good shape. Thanks for any replies!
In Calif it may be tougher unless your current Smog Test is still valid, have a look at that
Can't sell a used vehicle in Calif without a valid Smog Certificate, it can come back to bite you if you do, they can force YOU to pay for Smog Certificate
"Mechanics Special" is what you should list it as, that will gets some views from people that flip vehicles after repairing them, that's the way they make a living or extra cash on the side
The buyer decides the "value"
The seller just has an "asking price" so start high and then if there are no calls/offers lower it weekly
Also check with local mechanics if you own the vehicle outright, i.e. no car payments, lol
See what they would charge for the repair, and smog test, lol
Say its $3,000
If you think the vehicle can go another 3 years without another major repair(transmission) that's $83/month for 36months to have a good running Ranger
Not many worth while used vehicle for $83/month
You can also ask the mechanics if THEY want to buy it, AS IS, once they know what it will cost to repair
Never know, one of the shop's guys may make an offer, pickups are popular
